    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for automatically creating an electronic dental chart for a patient by using information acquired from analyzing any of several types of digital images captured from the patient.SOLUTION: In accordance with image data of a plurality of teeth of a patient, a position of each of imaged teeth is represented by a symbol, and a template dental chart regarding the patient is created. For the template dental chart, data are input to form the electronic dental chart by the steps of associating captured image data with a corresponding symbol in the template dental chart relating to an imaged tooth, analyzing the captured image data so as to identify a condition of the imaged tooth, associating at least the identified condition with the symbol corresponding to the imaged tooth, and displaying the electronic dental chart to which data have been input, and the displayed electronic dental chart provides a visual index in an identified state.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for generating color mapping relating to a dental object.SOLUTION: The method includes a step of generating a transformation matrix according to a set of spectral reflectance data on a statistically valid sampling of teeth. The dental object is illuminated over at least first, second and third wavelength bands, that is, over each wavelength band at a time. An image data value corresponding to each of the at least first, second and third wavelength bands is obtained for each of a plurality of pixels in an imaging array. A set of visual color values relating to each of the plurality of pixels is generated according to the obtained image data value and according to an image data value obtained from a reference object at the at least first, second and third wavelength bands. Thus, the transformation matrix is applied to form color mapping. The color mapping can be stored in an electronic memory.
