    • The invention relates to a method of estimating the load on a motor vehicle (10). The motor vehicle (10) having a wheel (12) comprising a tread (20) for rolling over a surface being driven on (14) and a first air chamber (32) in which there is a gas which by means of its gas pressure (G) counteracts de- formation of the tread (20) when the wheel (12) is rolling. The method lets gas into the first air chamber 32 over a predetermined period and estimates the load based on the change in pressure in the chamber. The object under- lying the invention is to provide a means of estimating the load on a vehicle. For this purpose the wheel (12) may have a second air chamber (38) coupled to the first air chamber (32) by a valve device (44), the first air chamber (32) extending between the tread (20) and the second air chamber (38) and the gas may flow from the second air chamber (38) into the first air chamber (32).

    • A mounting structure for an engine mount (9) for an internal combustion engine. A fitting (19), such as a spigot, having an axis is provided for fitment to the engine mount. A bracket (11) is provided for fitment to the internal combustion engine. The bracket is arranged to receive the fitting in a direction parallel to its axis. The bracket includes an arrangement, such as a clamp, which is operable to cause the bracket to retain or release the fitting and the arrangement is accessible along a direction perpendicular to the direction in which the fitting is received into the bracket. This enables the engine mount to be released from the bracket by accessing the bracket from alongside rather than above.

    • A retention system (10) comprises at least one elongate channel member (12) and at least one clip (14). The channel member defines an internal channel (22) and has a longitudinal slot (24) providing access to the channel. Each clip has an engagement portion (28, Fig. 3) for location in the channel and an external attachment portion (30, Fig.3) connected to the engagement portion by a neck which passes through the slot. The engagement portion is shaped such that in one angular orientation it is able to pass through the longitudinal slot and such that once inserted it can be moved to another angular orientation in which it is unable to pass through the longitudinal slot. At least part of the clip (14) which contacts the channel member (12) once inserted comprises a friction material (34) adapted so that contact between the material and the channel member resists longitudinal movement of the clip along the channel member. The retention system (10) is particularly adapted for use as a luggage retention system for the luggage compartment of a vehicle.

    • An ignition key switch mechanism for a vehicle having an automatic or semi-automatic gearbox comprises two solenoids (30) and (31) arranged at right angles to each other between which a slider (32) or lever is disposed. The mechanism locks to prevent turning of the ignition key to the off position and removal of the key. Locking is effected by activating one solenoid (31) to pull the shaft of that solenoid inside the armature of the solenoid. That in turn pulls the slider (32) towards the solenoid and enables a locking pin (33) on the slider to lock the mechanism. As the slider (32) moves towards the solenoid a notch in the slider is brought into line with the shaft of the second solenoid (31). This shaft enters the notch under spring force to hold the mechanism in the locked position. Unlocking is effected by activating the second solenoid to withdraw the shaft from the notch allowing the fist solenoid and the locking pin to return to unlocked positions which in turn permits the key to be turned to the off position and removed.
