    • A hand movement controller is described which permits a variety of control functions to be performed by single left or right handed operation. The controller comprises a base which is generally wedge-shaped with a sloping surface on which is located a movable palm support adapted to be received in the palm of a hand when the hand rests on a sloping surface. A plurality of keys are symmetrically spaced about the palm support and adapted to be engaged by fingers of the hand. The distance between the movable palm support and keys is adjustable to support the fingers to permit them to pivot freely about the knuckles with minimal strain over a prolongued period of time. The spacing of the keys about the palm support is designed to optimize reaction time and to take full advantage of normal reactions for both left and right handed individuals. In a preferred embodiment eight keys are used and permit control of movement in three dimensions as well as two dimensions, an actuation of control means in an object at a predetermined position in two dimensions as well as the three dimensions at a predetermined point and space. The upper surface can be moulded from a plastic thermoplastic material to be custom suited to the individual and the controller is particularly suitable to handicapped persons.

    • 2755. Burke, P. F. Feb. 3. Bar shoes; sole-plates; fixing; renewable and integral calks, treads, and hoof-fitting surfaces. -A shoe for horses having flat feet, corns, or drop soles due to founder, has an adjustable and expansible pad or web removably secured thereto to protect the hoof. The body 1 of the shoe, which inclines downwards on the inside, is provided with a flange 2 thickened and roughened at the toe and heels to form calks, and connected to it on the side under the outside of the hoof by lugs 4 suitably disposed. Similar lugs 5 arc connected to the body on the side under the inside of the hoof but spaced from the flange to permit of the flange being struck in if necessary to suit horses which walk "close." The pad or web consists of two pivotally connected plates secured to the underside of the body by studs or rivets 20, 21 and slots 16, the studs being struck over after the application of washers. Notches 15 are provided for the lugs 4 and 5. The plates are slidably and pivotally connected to each other by rivets secured in the slots 19. A heel plate or bar consists of two members 23, pivoted to the heel, and having overlapping parts joined together by a rivet passing through a slot in one member and a hole in the other. The upper surface of each member 23 is inclined so as to lie in the plane of the upper surface of the body part of the shoe, and the lower surface is provided with spurs 32, the pointed ends of which lie in the plane of the lower edge of the flange; the pad or web may if desired be formed with similar spurs to prevent slipping. The body of the shoe may be formed as in Fig. 6, the nails being driven into the outer part of the body, and the studs 20 being preferably turned over towards the inside.

    • An air core reactor of the type having a plurality of coaxial coil windings connected electrically in parallel by structurally rigid spiders at opposite ends of the reactor. There are two electrically conductive spiders at at least one end of the reactor. Selected ones of the coil windings are connected to one of the two spiders and further selected ones of the coil windings are connected to the other of the spiders at the one end. In the preferred form the windings connected to the respective spiders are circumferentially offset from one another around the coaxially disposed coils. In a further preferred embodiment, there are two electrically conductive spiders at each of opposite ends of the coaxial coils. In a still further preferred form, at least some of the coil windings are wound at least two conductors high with the same number of turns and wherein the ends of said two conductors are circumferentially offset from one another by preferably 180.degree.. In the most preferred form all coil windings are wound at least two conductors high ("n" high where "n" is an even number). The two spiders at one end may be a single structural unit with two separate electrically conductive spiders mounted thereon and carried thereby, or they may be two separate rigid electrically conductive structures that are internested or stacked one on top of the other. The two spiders at each of the opposite ends and the coil windings connected in parallel with the connections offset circumferentially provides a coil arrangement which can be checked readily for faults which are even relatively minor in nature or the detection of such faults in an operating system can be used to initiate a shut down of the system or parts thereof before substantial damage takes place.
