    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vibration tamper which has a reduced total weight, enhances compression efficiency with ease of operation in particular, and reduces stress applied to a shaft bearing of a tamper drive member.SOLUTION: A vibration tamper for compressing subsoil comprises an upper structure (2) and a lower structure (3). The upper structure (2) is provided with a motor (5) and an eccentric disk (7) driven by the motor. A connection rod (8) is eccentrically arranged on the eccentric disk (7) to convert rotational movement to linear movement. The lower structure has a tamper base (25) including a tamper plate (13) which is driven to provide linear tamping movement along a tamper axis (9) due to the linear movement of the connection rod. Since the connection rod is provided with a curvature part, the tamper axis (9) is located on a plane (28) arranged in parallel with a plane defined by a shaft bearing (18) of the connection rod on the eccentric disk, in an opposite direction of progress direction of the vibration tamper.
