    • 710,754. Book-keeping; clamping devices. WILSON, R. A. Oct. 10, 1950. No. 24686/50. Classes 16 and 146(1) Apparatus for holding documents such as account sheets, carbon papers and the like in superimposed relationship on a base board by means of clamping or holding means mounted on the base board, the clamping means comprise at least one strip-like element having an outwardly directed foot portion, at least one striplike element disposed in parallel relation to the first element and arranged to cooperate with the foot portion to form a clamp, the 'foot portion in turn being arranged to co-operate with the base board or a corresponding foot portion on a further strip-like element to form an underlying clamp and means associated with each strip-like element for moving it towards and away from the base board into and out of operative position, the arrangement being such that when an element having a foot portion is moved away from the base board, the element or elements cooperating therewith are retained in operative relation so that any sheet or sheets held thereby will not necessarily be released. On a base board 1 are mounted brackets 2, 3 supporting a spindle 4 on which are pivotally mounted five clamp elements 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 each comprising elongated metal strips of L-shape in cross- .section disposed one above the other, one limb of each extending towards the base board 1. The elements 8, 10 are provided with outwardly directed foot portions 8b, lOb, the elements 6, 7 clamping papers against the foot portion 8b, the elements 8, 9 clamping against the foot portion 10b and the element 10 clamping against the base board 1. The upper limb of each element has depending side lugs 11-15 and 16-20. which are apertured to receive the spindle 4. and rearwardly extending operating arms 21-25 respectively which are staggered with respect to each other to allow separate operation of each. Since the upper limbs of the elements 6-10 are disposed one above the other, operation of the arm of any of the elements 7-10 will raise the elements lying thereover, but when the elements 8 and 10 are raised, papers clamped to the foot portions 8b, 10b will not be released. Each clamp is spring-pressed to operative position by springs 27-31 mounted on the spindle 4 and pressing against the respective operating arms 21-25. A back stop 5 for the lowermost papers is secured to the base board 1 and the outer edges of the foot portions 8b, 10b, are cut away at 27a to facilitate insertion of papers thereover.

[Classes 59 and 86] Mixing-machines primarily for the production of superphosphate comprise an annular chamber of C-shape in cross section with the mouth of the C innermost, to the interior of which mixed materials are delivered, the rotation of the chamber presenting them to a slicing, shredding &c. appliance for breaking down the mass. The annular chamber 1 is supported by rollers 2, 4 and slowly rotated by worm gearing. Ground rock phosphate and acid are fed to a mixing trough 8 from which a discharge shoot 7 leads to the lower part of the chamber. The slicing, shredding &c. device is mounted in the upper part of the chamber and comprises a pair of rotary blades 10 located in front of a screen 13 which shields the driving-mechanism for the blades. The powdered phosphate falls on to a conveyer 11.

    • 263,996. Wilson, A., Wilson, D., and Taylor & Wilson, Ltd. Dec. 2, 1925. Folding mangles and wringers. - In folding mangles and wringers, the bottom roller shaft a of which is driven from a flywheel D by chain double-reduction gear, there is provided an additional sprocket wheel fast on the shaft a with a chain E engaging a sprocket wheel e loose on the turnover rod e . A ratchet wheel His formed integrally with the wheel e', and when the mangle is raised a pawl h is kept out of engagement with the ratchet by the turnover frame engaging the other end of the pawl. On swinging the frame slightly forwardly the pawl locks the ratchet and sprocket wheels H, e , and continued rotation of the flywheel causes the frame to turn about the pivot e . The tensioning adjustment for the main chains may be that described in Specification 213,423, and a separate adjustment for the chain E is provided. In a modification. the ratchet and pawl are dispensed with and the sprocket wheel e is fixed on the turnover rod. the additional sprocket wheel on the roller shaft being loose thereon but clutchable therewith. In a further modification, the third chain and sprocket wheels may be replaced by toothed gear wheels.
