    • A set of thermal afterburners is described, whose members to a large extent possess the same construction: They have a housing with an inlet for gas to be purified and with an outlet for purified gas. The gas to be purified is freed from impurities with the aid of a burner in a combustion chamber. To conserve energy a heat exchanger is provided, which comprises a plurality of substantially parallel heat exchanger tubes. With the aid of this heat exchanger heat is recovered from the hot gas leaving the combustion chamber and fed to the gas ducted to the combustion chamber. The various members of the set of thermal afterburners now vary in the efficiency level of the heat exchanger, in order to be able to produce a different outlet temperature of the purified gas for each member. For this purpose, the heat exchanger tubes are provided on their surface with elevations and/or recesses, which alter the effective heat exchanger surface area in comparison to smooth-walled tubes. The various members of the set of thermal afterburner now vary substantially exclusively through the density and/or height of the elevations and/or depth of the recesses, but not in the remaining construction, in particular the dimensioning of the various components. In this way, different thermal afterburners can be manufactured at low cost, in the case of which the outlet temperature of the purified gases is adapted to the different needs of the plant connected downstream.

    • A thermal post-combustion device for the purification of exhaust air comprises an outer housing surrounded by an insulating jacket, a combustion chamber bounded by a combustion chamber housing and arranged within the outer housing, and a burner chargeable with fuel and that comprises a burner nozzle and a first flame tube that surrounds the burner nozzle and connects the space between the outer housing and the combustion chamber housing to the combustion chamber. The burner includes at least one further flame tube that is arranged completely within the combustion chamber, and the end of the first flame tube lying inside the combustion chamber is surrounded by a further flame tube of larger radius so as to form an annular gap between the first flame tube and the further flame tube. In this way a circulating flow of the combustion air becomes possible inside the combustion chamber, which flow is guided repeatedly through the annular gap and the flame of the burner. This improves the completeness of the combustion and produces a uniform temperature within the combustion chamber, with the result that the post-combustion device can be operated at a lower flame temperature.

    • An electrodialysis device (10), which, in particular, is employed for the purpose of adjusting the pH value of the lacquer liquid in a cataphoretic dip-lacquering plant, comprises a plurality of electrodialysis cells (16, 17) connected to one another in parallel, which in known manner each have two chambers (14) separated from one another by an ion-specific membrane (34). The individual electrodialysis cells (16, 17) are constructed analogously to one another and are arranged in a stack. They are each composed of plate-like elements (20a, 20b, 22a, 22b, 34) arranged alongside one another. Plate-like elements (20a, 20b) of a first type form electrodes, whereas plate-like elements (22a, 22b) of a second type form spacing elements which have a recess in the interior region and in this way laterally delimit a chamber (14). Within each electrodialysis cell (16, 17) a sequence is formed which consists of one plate-like element (20a) of the first type and two plate-like elements (22a, 22b) of the second type with an ion-specific membrane (34) arranged in between. This electrodialysis device (10) can be assembled inexpensively from very few different parts and can be readily varied in its capacity through the choice of the number of electrodialysis cells (16, 17) in the stack.

    • The invention describes a burner for a thermal post-combustion device, which has a burner jet arranged in a housing. Arranged on the end region of the housing is a swirl apparatus, through which the exhaust gas to be purified can be made to flow. The burner jet comprises an outer tube and an inner tube, wherein it is possible for combustion gas to be made to flow through the interspace between said two tubes as far as an annular outlet gap in the end region thereof. The flow path for the combustion gas has a bottleneck in the vicinity of the outlet gap. In this way, a compact flame can be achieved, the form of which can be designated “bell-shaped” and which, for a given volume, has a relatively small surface. Although, such a flame has poor CO2 values, the swirl apparatus ensures that the exhaust gas burns in the flame with very low NOx and CO values.

    • A burner for a thermal post-combustion device comprises a combustion nozzle, which comprises a substantially hollow-cylindrical base member (1) at least virtually closed at one end by a cover (2). Fuel gas is supplied thereto axially at a particular pressure. The fuel gas flows out radially via main discharge openings (8) of the combustion nozzle. These main discharge openings (8) are at such a radial distance from the axis of the base member (1) and exhibit such a cross-section that, at the particular pressure of the supplied fuel gas, individual flames form at the main discharge openings (8) which substantially do not overlap. While maintaining the same total burner power, in this way the individual flames remain colder than in known burners, which produce a cohesive ball of flame instead of individual flames.
