    • 412,555. Driving belts. ALEXANDER, F. W., c/o Lewis & Tylor, Ltd., Gripoly Mills, Cardiff, and AITKEN, A. K., c/o Dick, Ltd., R. & J., Greenhead Works, Bridgeton, Glasgow. Dec. 24, 1932, No. 36600. [Class 80 (i).] An endless V- belt is made by winding rubberized yarn as described in Specifications 344,414, [Group IX], 405,311, 405,312, and 405,313, [all in Group V], or fabric woven from such yarn, under tension on to a rotary mould or former and consolidating - preferably under heat and pressure. In the apparatus shown, the rubberized yarn 13 is wound from the bobbins 12 through a tensioning device 14 and traversing device 15 on to the forming drum or mould 21. The grooves 20 are lined with rubberized fabric, and after the body of cords is formed, the edges of the fabric are folded over to enclose the yarn. The belt is then vulcanized by admitting steam to the hollow interior of the mould through a cock 29, while pressure is applied by a roller 30. The impregnated yarn &c. may be subjected to further impregnation with vulcanizers, activators, and accelerators, either between the bobbins 12 and the mould 21 or when wound upon the mould. In the latter case, the impregnating liquids may be introduced into the interior of the mould and forced out through perforations into the material. The belt may be moulded to its final shape on a separate mould. A further wrapping of rubberized fabric may be applied. In the Provisional Specification, Specifications 338,381, [Class 120 (iii)], and 411,460, [Group IV], also are referred to.

    • 682,005. Wire-wound resistors; temperaturevariable resistors; casings and enclosures for resistors. MIEVES, A., and KENNEDY, A. Oct. 9, 1950 [Nov. 4, 1949], No. 28290/49. Class 37. A device for ascertaining temperatures of remote sources comprises a lance constituted by an assembly of collinear tubular members, detachably connected together, one of which has a point or probe and contains near the probe end a resistance winding, each tubular member embodying a pair of conductors insulated from one another within the tubular member but so connected throughout the length of the lance as to constitute leads from the said resistance to suitable external electric temperature measuring means. The central bore of the lance may be used to supply cooling or heating fluid to the source being measured. The lance comprises a tubular member 1 having a probe 5 and carrying a resistance winding beneath the cover 25a, a tubular member 2 having a handle 13 and any desired number of intermediate members 3. The tubular members are suitably threaded (as at 4 and 4 1 ) for connection together and each has a thin inner concentric tube 20 (see Fig. 4) insulated from the main tube 30 by material 25 and extended at one end to form a plug 20a (Fig. 1) which fits a corresponding socket in the opposite end of the inner tube 20 of the adjacent tubular member. Thus the outer and inner tubes 30 and 20 form continuous conductors throughout the length of the lance and at the probe end are connected to a resistance 21 as shown in Fig. 4. A sleeve 23 is screwed at its ends 23a into the outer tube 30 of the tubular member 1 and into the pointed probe 5 and carries two insulating collars 24 separated by a cylindrical metallic distance-piece 25a. The resistance 21 is wound on insulation 22 in the space between the cover 25a and the sleeve 23 and its ends are connected by leads 30c and 20c to tubes 30 and 20 respectively. Near the handle end of tubular member 2 the twin conductors 20e, 30e of a flexible lead are connected to the tubes 30 and 20, Fig. 6 (not shown), and serve to connect the resistance 21 in series with a battery and milliammeter which may be calibrated directly in temperature. The outer tube 30 of the member 2 is prolonged beyond the handle 13 and formed as a plug 7 to receive flexible tubing which may supply cooling or heating fluid (e.g. CO 2 ) via the central bore of the inner tubes 20 to apertures 6 in the probe 5 and hence to the source to adjust the temperature thereof. The inner surface of the central bore may be insulated. An electrical unit for heating the flow of fluid, if desired, is described, Fig. 9 (not shown). If necessary, the outer tube of each section of the lance assembly can have an insulating coating, or, alternatively, two internal concentric insulated tubes may be provided as conductors instead of utilizing the outer tube 30.

    • A system (10) and method are provided for interacting one or more individuals. The apparatus and method allow a playing surface to interact with a user or a physical object (12). The physical object is associated with goods suitable for use with the system, such as balls, footwear, racquets and other suitable goods. The system is capable of tracking each user and tracking each physical object. The system is illuminable in a spectrum of colors under control of a computer. The computer can control the illumination of the system based in part on detected movement or predicted movement or both, of a user and of a physical object. Moreover, the system provides a number of pressure sensitive surfaces to detect and track a user. The system is suitable for placement on a floor, a ceiling, and one or more walls or any combination thereof.
