The cartridge contains, in separated condition therein, two different fluid compositions which cure on mixing. The cartridge has an elongated cylindrical main body with a protruding round neck at its head end and plungermovable closure means at its butt end. One composition is enclosed in an inner central chamber having a disc-like closure. The other is in an outer ring chamber oriented coaxially about the central chamber and having a donut-like closure. Each chamber is connected to a separate passageway through the round neck of the cartridge. A means solely at the head end braces the central chamber against relative movement within the cartridge during plunger extrusion of the compositions. A fastening means on the cartridge neck is for locking a mixing nozzle thereon. Also provided is an assembly of the cartridge releasably mounted on apparatus for simultaneous metering extrusion of the separated compositions from it. The apparatus comprises a frame, and a plunger assembly of coaxial elements mounted in and guided by the frame for linear advancement as a unit with respect thereto. The frame is equipped with a holding means for retaining the cartridge with its butt end closures axially aligned anteriorly to the coaxial elements of the plunger assembly. An advancing means provides for advancement of the plunger assembly with respect to the frame.

    • A system for easily transferring an intraocular lens (IOL) from a lens case (670) to an inserter (800), and then into a patient's eye. The lens case has a transfer mechanism (672) therein which retains the IOL until engagement with the inserter. The transfer mechanism may include jaws (700, 704) having a closed configuration for retaining the IOL and an open configuration for releasing the IOL. Engagement of the inserter with the lens case automatically opens the jaws and transfers the IOL to the inserter. The IOL is transferred into a load chamber (844) of a nosepiece (606) rotatably coupled to a handpiece (600). After transfer of the IOL, the nosepiece is rotated from a load position to a delivery position. The IOL may have an optic (710) and a haptic (712a, 712b) coupled to the optic, and the lens case may be capable of configuring the haptic as desired to facilitate its transfer into an inserter and/or into the eye. For instance, the lens case may fold one or both of the haptics over the optic. Preferably, the lens case maintains the haptic in this position during transfer of the intraocular lens into an inserter and/or inserter cartridge. A manifold (662) for easily distributing a viscoelastic medium to the load chamber (844) of the inserter is also provided.

    • A system (20) for easily transferring an intraocular lens (IOL) from an inserter into a patient's eye. The system includes an inserter handpiece (22) with a holding station (30) for receiving or storing an IOL. The IOL may be pre-loaded within the holding station during manufacture, and the inserter handpiece coupled to a delivery tube (26) so that the entire system is ready for use by a surgeon to implant an IOL. The IOL may have an optic (32) and leading and trailing haptics (34,36) coupled to the optic, and the holding station may be capable of manipulating the haptics as desired to facilitate transfer of the IOL through the delivery tube into the eye. For instance, the holding station may fold one or both of the haptics over the optic. Preferably, the holding station maintains the haptics in their folded positions during transfer of the IOL into the delivery tube. The holding station desirably maintains the IOL -in a relaxed configuration during storage. A small opening (120) on one side may be provided to introduce a narrow tool for folding one of the haptics over the optic.

    • A lens case for storing an intraocular lens contains a housing for storing an intraocular lens and a support member configured to support the intraocular lens. The support member includes a plurality of jaws, the jaws having a closed configuration for holding the intraocular lens and an open configuration for releasing the intraocular lens. The lens case may further comprise an intraocular lens that is disposed between the jaws, the intraocular lens comprising an optic and a haptic coupled to the optic. The lens case may be configured to maintain the haptic in either a first position in which a distal portion of the haptic is disposed farther from the optic or a second position in which the distal portion of the haptic is disposed closer to optic. Preferably, the lens case is configured to provide the second position during transfer of the intraocular lens into an inserter and/or inserter cartridge.
