    • The present invention discloses a semicrystalline, thermoplastic polyurethane which is comprised of the reaction product of (1) a hydrophobic polyol, (2) a polyisocyanate, and (3) a linear chain extender containing 5 carbon atoms or 7 to 12 carbon atoms; wherein the hydrophobic polyol has a number average molecular weight which is within the range of about 1,000 to about 4,000; wherein the semicrystalline, thermoplastic polyurethane has a weight average molecular weight which is within the range of 50,000 to 1,000,000; and wherein the semicrystalline, thermoplastic polyurethane has a melting point which is within the range of 80° C. to 150° C. This hydrophobic thermoplastic polyurethane offers a unique array of characteristics that are highly desirable for utilization in manufacturing a variety of products. For instance, it can be used in overmolding soft grips onto consumer products, in adhesives, and in protective coatings.

    • The present invention provides an offset printing blanket or sleeve including one or more layers that are made with a soft thermoplastic polyurethane composition that provides excellent compression set and excellent resistance to apolar solvents, such as naphthenic mineral spirits. The subject invention more specifically reveals a printing blanket comprising: a base layer; a compressible layer, and a printing surface layer, wherein the compressible layer and/or the printing surface layer is comprised of a thermoplastic polyurethane composition, wherein the thermoplastic polyurethane composition made by reacting (a) at least one polyester polyol intermediate with (b) at least one diisocyanate and (c) at least one chain extender; wherein the polyester polyol intermediate comprises an intermediate derived from at least one dialkylene glycol and at least one dicarboxylic acid or an ester or anhydride thereof. It is particularly beneficial to utilize the thermoplastic polyurethane composition in the printing surface layer.

    • An instrument for the inspection of well bores includes an improved light source contained within the same pressure barrel as the camera. A low power lamp is disposed within an elliptical-shaped reflector that reflects the lamp light to a focal point distal of the reflector. Optical fibers are disposed at that focal point and conduct the light received from the lamp to form an array of light sources disposed about the camera. An annular window disposed in the line of illumination of the array of light sources directs the illumination into the field of view of the camera. The light source arrangement provides an unobstructed and illuminated field of view for the camera. Because of the increased efficiency of the light source that includes the described elliptical reflector, a self-contained power system may be used in the instrument thereby resulting in a much smaller support cable for the instrument with the ability to inspect much smaller boreholes. Standard size batteries may be used in the power system. A slickline cable may be used with the disclosed instrument.

    • The present invention relates generally to polyurethane compositions; and more preferably to thermoplastic polyurethane compositions. In one embodiment, the polyurethane compositions of the present invention have high moisture vapor transmission rates and are suitable for film applications (e.g., breathable films). In one embodiment, the polyurethane compositions of the present invention are prepared from the reaction of a mixed polyol component, a polyisocyanate component, a chain extender, and optionally at least one suitable catalyst, wherein the mixed polyol component is formed by a combination of one or more poly(ethylene oxide) polyols and one or more copolymer polyols, where the resulting mixed polyol component comprises from about 3 to about 30 weight percent of a copolymer polyol and about 70 to 97 weight percent of poly(ethylene oxide) polyol.
