    • A loudspeaker that includes an acoustical enclosure that has an internal wall that divides the enclosure into first and second subchambers, an electro-acoustical transducer having a vibratable speaker cone mounted in an opening provided in the internal wall of the acoustical enclosure, an internal vent provided in the internal wall of the acoustical enclosure for pneumatically coupling the first and second subchambers, a first external vent provided in a wall of the first subchamber for pneumatically coupling the first subchamber to an exterior environment outside of the acoustical enclosure, and a second external vent provided in a wall of the second subchamber for pneumatically coupling the second subchamber to the exterior environment. In one embodiment, a ratio of the acoustic mass of the internal vent to the acoustic mass of the second external vent is in a range of approximately 3/1 to 7/1. In another embodiment, a ratio of the acoustic mass of the first external vent to the acoustic mass of the second external vent is in a range of approximately 15/1 to 30/1. In both embodiments, a ratio of the volume of the first subchamber to the volume of the second subchamber is in a range of approximately 0.3 to 2.5. In both embodiments, at least one of the internal and/or external vents can be substituted with a passive radiating element such as a drone cone.

    • The invention relates to a device for reading and/or writing a disc-shaped information carrier (17), which comprises a support element (25) of a magnetizable material along its circumference. The device comprises an electromagnetic unit (27) for co-operation with the support element and a scanning unit (23) for reading and/or writing the information carrier. By co-operation between the electromagnetic unit and the support element, the information carrier can be rotated about an axis of rotation (73) and positioned with respect to the scanning unit (23) in five degrees of freedom, i.e. in all degrees of freedom except the rotational degree of freedom around the axis of rotation. According to the invention, the electromagnetic unit (27) comprises a single pair of rows (29, 31) of electromagnets (33, 35), which rows are arranged, along an X-axis perpendicular to the axis of rotation (73), on both sides of the information carrier. The electromagnetic unit (27) further comprises a first pair of electromagnets (37, 39) and a second pair of electromagnets (41, 43) which are diametrically arranged with respect to each other, viewed in a middle position of the information carrier (17) along the X-axis and viewed along a Y-axis perpendicular to the X-axis and the axis of rotation, the magnets of the first and the second pair being arranged on both sides of the information carrier, and the magnetic poles (69, 71) of the electromagnets of each pair being arranged at equal distances from the X-axis and, in each position of the information carrier along the X-axis, on one side of a magnetic point of application (M) of the support element. Thus, the electromagnetic unit has a comparatively simple construction and comprises a limited number of electromagnets, so that also the control unit, which is necessary to control the electromagnetic forces of the electromagnets, is simplified.

    • Single-channel magnetic head having a head face (1) which extends in a first direction (I) in which a magnetic record carrier (3) is relatively movable with respect to the magnetic head, and in a second direction (II) transverse to the first direction. The magnetic head has a structure of layers which, viewed in the first direction, are situated one on top of the other and extend substantially in the second direction and a third direction (III) transvese to the first and the second direction. The structure is provided with a magnetoresistive measuring element (5), a first magnetic element (7) and a second magnetic element (9). Both magnetic elements are electrically conducting, while the measuring element is arranged electrically in series between the two magnetic elements for passing a measuring current (i) through the measuring element substantially in the third direction. Each magnetic element has an electric contact face (7a, 9a). To obtain a stable single-channel magnetic head having a narrow, well-defined scanning width, at least one magnetic element extending as far as the head face has an extensiveness which is larger in the second direction than in the third direction. This extensiveness in the second direction is also larger than the effective width (w) of the measuring element. In the third direction, the relevant magnetic element has a larger relative magnetic permeability (νrIII) than in the second direction.
