    • A method for planning the insertion of bone cement into an orthopedic void of a vertebra. A three dimensional preoperative image of the vertebra is used and the voxels are analyzed to provide the voxel absorption levels. The absorption levels are transformed into mechanical properties of regions of the vertebra, such that a three dimensional mesh of the mechanical properties of the vertebra is generated. An entry point and an entry angle are selected on the vertebra, through which to inject bone cement into the void. Then, using the known viscosity of the bone cement, and using the entry point and entry angle, a finite elements analysis may be performed on the mesh to simulate the propagation of the bone cement into the orthopedic void. The simulation is repeated using different operational parameters until said propagation of said bone cement is deemed satisfactory.

    • A holder apparatus for enabling secure coupling of a variety of medical tool types, having different head member configurations, to a medical device. The apparatus has at least two housing portions that open and close to receive the head member, and an adjustment mechanism that adjusts to the height and/or shape of the head member, such that there is no relative movement between the housing portions and the head member. The adjustment mechanism may be a ratchet mechanism, a semi-flexible fastener, or a moldable material disposed on one or more of the housing portions. There may be a locking mechanism to lock together the housing portions, and a tightening mechanism to secure the grip of the housing portions on the head member. The housing portions may be configured to allow removal of at least a portion of the medical tool from the device.

    • A system incorporating safety features, for optical power transmission to receivers, comprising an optical resonator having end reflectors and a gain medium, a driver supplying power to the gain medium, and controlling its small signal gain, a beam steering apparatus and a controller to control at least the beam steering apparatus and the driver. The controller responds to a safety risk occurring in the system, by outputting a command to change at least some of the small signal gain of the gain medium, the radiance of the optical beam, the power supplied by the driver, the scan speed or the scan direction and position of the beam steering apparatus, or to register the scan pose which defines the location of said optical-to-electrical power converter. The controller may also ensure a high overall radiance efficiency, and may warn of transmitted power not received by a targeted receiver.
