摘要： The bursting disc assembly has a primary bursting disc (10) and a secondary bursting disc (20) immediately behind and supporting the primary bursting disc. Each of the said discs (10,20) is made of metal and is gas impermeable, and the bursting strength of the assembly is derived from both of the bursting discs acting in combination. The primary and secondary bursting discs are in contact over the whole of the operating area of the disc, and are shaped together as a pair. The materials of the two discs can be chosen suitably for their functions. The primary disc is for example corrosion-resistant.

摘要： An alternating pressure mattress has two sets (A, B) of cells, which are inflated and deflated cyclically and in sequence, to provide alternating support for a patient. Each set (A, B) has central transverse cells (11a, 11b) and side forming cells (14a, 14b). The central cells (11a, 11b) provide a central region for the patient. The side forming cells (14a, 14b) protrude, when inflated, higher than the central cells, to act as side barriers preventing rolling of the patient off the mattress. At each side of the mattress a plurality of the side forming cells (14a, 14b) of both sets (A, B) is present, these cells inflating and deflating with the respective central cells (11a, 11b), so that the side barrier effect is provided by the two sets (A, B) cells alternatingly.

摘要： A medical device, for example a stent, has a surface which in use contacts body tissue, wherein said surface has on it a biocompatible coating layer comprising a polymer having covalently bound allyl-terminated pendent groups, said pendent groups comprising a moiety selected from -0-CH 2 -CH=CH 2 -S-CH 2 -CH=CH 2 -S (=0) -CH 2 -CH=CH 2 -Se-CH 2 -CH=CH 2 and -Se (=0 J-CH 2 -CH=CH 2 . This surface has good biocompatibility and can bind strongly to a metallic surface. The polymer may be made from an electropolymerisable monomer, e.g. a pyrrole.

摘要： A bedframe (1) for medical beds has a height-adjustable frame member (3) and an obstruction detector on the height-adjustable frame member. The obstruction detector has a contact member (9) which is displaceable, for obstruction detection, both upwardly and downwardly relative to the frame member (3). A sensor (95) detects such displacement, to stop movement of the frame member (3). The frame member (3) may be a height adjustable lower frame member of a bedframe having also a height adjustable upper frame member (2). The bedframe also has a manually removable panel (81) of its headboard (8a) and footboard (8b), to allow access to a patient between columns carrying the height-adjustable upper frame member (2).
