    • In one example, we describe methods and systems for automated online merchant charity donations. In one embodiment, a donation agent interacting with a merchant website can offer an online user an option to allocate at least a portion of a payment for or price of a purchase, associated with a transaction made by the user via the merchant website, to be donated by a merchant corresponding to the merchant website on behalf of the user to a charity of the user's choosing. If the online user exercises the option, the donation agent can calculate an amount of the donation to be made and store the calculated donation amount in a database. The donation agent can disburse the calculated donation amount to the charity selected by the customer. The method also works for the off-line model. The points earned can be combined with a college scholarship award mechanism. The system and method describe authentication and the way the charity funding is distributed, with respect to the college tuition and scholarship award.

    • The present invention, in one embodiment, aids the user during composition of emails/letters/documents with assistance for correct gender usage. In one example application, first an automated user information look-up process is initiated over centralized databases using the proper names mentioned in the composition. Once matches are found, gender-related information is retrieved and the composer is assisted with gender recognition tools while composing gender-sensitive statements. When mismatches between proper nouns and the corresponding adjectives/pronouns are found, this method proceeds with highlighting or otherwise flagging the mismatching words. Upon right-clicking the highlighted words, the user is given suggestions for the most probably correct options. Examples of the idea explained in this invention can be incorporated in existing software/systems of email/document editor/composers.

    • A new intra-spinal decompression implant is introduced. One example for our presentation is a device with 2 or 3 pieces, with each piece with 2 clamps, symmetrically located on each side of each piece. The main piece has at least 2 screws which engage into 2 or more grooves in the side piece, to get attached to the side piece. The 3rd piece, as an optional piece, is the bottom piece, which is similar to the side piece, and gets attached to the main piece, using same or different screws. Each piece is attached to the human body, during back surgery, with corresponding clamps. Other examples are implants that have different plates and assembly arrangements or connectors or sliders or screws or handles, located between the bones and tissue, for back and neck, for various applications or procedures or usages.

    • A novel approach for the growth of high-quality on-axis epitaxial silicon carbide (SiC) films and boules, using the Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) technique, is described here. The method includes a method of substrate preparation, which allows for the growth of “on-axis” SiC films, plus an approach giving the opportunity to grow silicon carbide on singular (a small-angle miscut) substrates, using halogenated carbon-containing precursors (carbon tetrachloride, CCl4, or halogenated hydrocarbons, CHCl3, CH2Cl2, or CH3Cl, or similar compounds or chemicals), or introducing other chlorine-containing species, in the gas phase, in the growth chamber. At gas mixtures greater than the critical amount, small clusters of SiC are etched, before they can become stable nuclei. The presence of chlorine and the formation of gas species allow an increased removal rate of these nuclei, in contrast to the growth without the presence of chlorine. Or, alternatively, the novel precursors introduced in the growth system reduce the effective supersaturation ratio of the Si species in the growth layer. The reduction of the supersaturation ratio reduces or eliminates the 2D (and 3C—SiC) nucleation which would occur due to the large terrace widths present on the on-axis wafers. This allows the growth of Silicon Carbide epitaxial layers on SiC substrates or composite substrates with monocrystalline layers. This can also be applied to the other semiconductors, chemicals, compounds, materials, growth methods, or devices.

    • This is a system to assist shoppers through a handheld wireless communications device which is Bluetooth-enabled (as an example) (a registered trademark), connected to a barcode reader to scan Universal Product Code (UPC) barcodes on items in the store. The shopper is required to login to the store's shopping system using this device once a personal account has created. While shopping, scan the items, view their prices and running total and finally complete the purchase. This system is also capable of (as an example) consolidating a personal shopping list created remotely through vendor's web site or stored on the personal communication device and the shopping cart to help and enhance the shopping experience.
