摘要： A dental prosthetic includes an elongate threaded implant adapted to be secured within the trabecular region of a maxilla or mandible. An abutment having a first region adapted to receive a crown and a second region adapted for coupling to the elongate threaded implant is secured to the elongate threaded implant. The abutment and elongate threaded implant extend generally along a common longitudinal axis. A compliant brace is adapted for placement between the first region of the abutment and the elongate threaded implant. The compliant brace includes first, second, and third elongate extensions capable of engaging the cortical region of the maxilla or mandible, thereby minimizing micromotion and allowing for osseointegration despite immediate installation of a crown and immediate mechanical loading. The dental prosthetic may also include an adaptor for coupling the elongate threaded implant and the abutment. Methods for implanting dental prosthetics are also described.

摘要： A system and method is provided for using ultrasound data backscattered from vascular tissue to estimate the transfer function of a catheter (including components attached thereto -- e.g., IVUS console, transducer, etc.). Specifically, in accordance with a first embodiment of the present invention, a computing device (110) is electrically connected to a catheter (120) and used to acquire RF backscattered data from a vascular structure (e.g., a blood vessel, etc.). The backscattered ultrasound data is then used, together with an algorithm, to estimate the transfer function. The transfer function can then be used (at least in a preferred embodiment) to calculate response data for the vascular tissue (i.e., the tissue component of the backscattered ultrasound data).

摘要： A method and device for renal replacement therapy is described. Sterile filtered solution can be subsequently used as a replacement fluid in the same unit. The devices and methods include a pump that can be reversed from its normal forward-pumping direction to sterilize a container (62) of replacement fluid (82) to produce sterile replacement fluid (81). The sterile replacement fluid (81) is captured in a fluid bag (80). Upon sterilization of the contents of the container (62), the pump switches to run in its normal forward-pumping direction. The sterile replacement fluid (81) produced by the previous process is now injected into a patient (92) to perform renal replacement therapy. The waste produced during the renal replacement therapy can be trapped in the container (62) that previously held the non-sterile solution (82).

The systems include a pump, a processing unit, and blood drawn return lines for accessing a patient's vasculature. Blood flow through the return line is measured and pump speed controlled to maintain a desired blood flow rate. Alarm conditions can be initiated when expected pump performance differs from that needed to maintain the control point flow rate. By using an ultrasonic flow detector, gas bubbles in the blood flow can be detected.

摘要： A catheter comprising an elongate tubular member having a proximal end and a distal end, and a deflectable tip at the distal end of the elongate tubular member. The deflectable tip comprises a first helical coil having a first diameter and a second helical coil having a second diameter, the first diameter being larger than the second diameter. The first and second helical coils are arranged in the manner of a double helix. When viewed in cross-section, the first helical coil and the second helical coil are aligned at a first point on a circumference of each coil and misaligned at a second point on the circumference of each coil, where the second point is approximately 180 degrees from the first point. In certain embodiments the catheter further includes a dilatation balloon. Methods of use for crossing a chronic total occlusion are also described.
