摘要： The present invention relates to the provision of a spoiler actuation apparatus for moving an aircraft spoiler. The spoiler is moveable between a stowed configuration and a deployed configuration. The spoiler actuation apparatus comprises a guide member (210), a rack (220) mounted on the guide member and slideable along a longitudinal axis of the guide member, and a gear (240) coupled to the rack, the gear arranged to move the spoiler (130) in response to sliding of the rack. The rack is held at a first position when the spoiler is in the stowed configuration. An actuator moves the rack from the first position to a second position along the longitudinal axis. When the rack is at the second position, the rack is operable to accelerate relative to the guide member away from the second position by an aerodynamic force acting on the spoiler.

摘要： According to the invention there is provided a cleaning appliance (10) comprising a main body (12), a handle assembly (100) and a hose (50). The handle assembly (100) comprises a tube (104) and a gripping portion (114) fixedly attached thereto. The hose (50) has one end attached to the main body (12). The tube (104) is movable relative to the main body (12) between a stored position in which at least a part of the tube (104) lies within the hose (50) and an extended position in which the gripping portion (114) can be used to manipulate the cleaning appliance (10) in use. By providing such an arrangement, the handle assembly (100) and the hose (50) can be stored in a compact manner. When the user wishes to store the cleaning appliance (10), the tube (104) can be retracted inside the hose (50) for storage. However, when the tube (104) is extended, the gripping portion (114) is at a convenient height to be manipulated by a user. This arrangement requires less space than conventional arrangements.

In order to permit free movement of the hose, the hose is divided into portions (2a, 2b) having a joint (17) therebetween. The slip rings are connected to conductors of the other hose portion. Thus, the hose portions (2a, 2b) may rotate relative to one another without causing damage to the electrical connection along the hose.

摘要： A rotor assembly (1) for an electric machine such as a motor comprises a rotor (3) on a shaft (2) having a bearing (7, 8) at each end portion, the bearings being arranged to rotatably support the rotor and shaft. The assembly further comprises resilient means on the bearings in the form of o-rings (15a, 15b, 16a, 16b) arranged so that, in use, the rotor rotates about its own centre of mass. This reduces wear on the bearings, which may be caused by the rotor rotating about its geometric centre. The rotor assembly may be used in a switched reluctance machine, such as a motor or generator. Air impelling means (4) may be provided on the shaft and arranged, in use, to draw air over at least one of the bearings, in order to cool it.
