    • An x-ray source can include a power supply (10) and an x-ray tube (16). The power supply can include digital-to-analog converters (DACs) (17a, 17b) electrically-coupled between a digital controller (12) and an x-ray tube control circuit (13). A user of the x-ray source can provide a digital input to the digital controller for operation of the x-ray source. Advantages of this power supply can include easy operation of the x-ray source, minimize problems in x-ray source operation due to variation between manufactured x-ray tubes, and reduced electronic noise. There can be a small distance (Ld1, Ld2) between the DACs and the x-ray tube control circuit. The power supply electronic components can be part of a single electronic circuit rigidly-mounted together. The digital controller, the first DAC, the second DAC, and the x-ray tube control circuit can be rigidly-mounted within a housing (21).

    • A wire grid polarizer (WGP) (10) can have a conformal-coating (13) to protect the WGP (10) from at least one of the following: corrosion, dust, and damage due to tensile forces in a liquid on the WGP (10). The conformal-coating (13) can include a silane conformal-coating with chemical formula (1), chemical formula (2), or combinations thereof: (Formula (1)) A method of applying a conformal-coating (13) over a WGP (10) can include exposing the WGP (10) to Si(R 1 ) d (R 2 ) e (R 3 ) g . In the above WGP (10) and method, X can be a bond to the ribs (12); each R 1 can be a hydrophobic group; each R 3 , if any, can be any chemical element or group; d can be 1, 2, or 3, e can be 1, 2, or 3, g can be 0, 1, or 2, and d+e+g = 4; R 2 can be a silane-reactive-group; and each R 6 can be an alkyl group, an aryl group, or combinations thereof.
