摘要： A novel dual neurotransmitter nanoparticle composition is provided to store and transport protons and cations into neural cell membranes and to disassemble salt-bridge stabilized toxic protein plaques. These properties function to mitigate cognitive deficits in neurological diseases such as Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease, as well as to reduce the severity of Inflammatory Bowel Syndrome, and aging related reactive oxygen species damage by promoting the sequestration and termination of free radicals and reactive oxygen species. The composition comprises C60 bonded to one or more gamma amino butyric acid molecules and one or more molecules of either levodopa or dopamine. The composition can be produced at low temperatures through reactive shear milling. This composition therapeutically improves and prophylactically preserves cognitive performance, memory, and mental acuity on aging to promote mental performance and health-span improvement.

摘要： A nanoparticle composition of buckminsterfullerene with ellagic acid is provided that becomes substantially more efficacious to maintain or re-establish benign healthy cellular homeostasis with the functionalization of at least about 10% luteolin. This composition is formulated to prevent or to treat chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (COPD). In addition, the ability to penetrate hydrophobic malignant tissues via desulfurization is promoted with the addition of phosphonate pendant groups. This further enables the composition to penetrate fungal spores, the hydrophobic regions of uncontrolled cellular proliferation, neoplasms, degenerative malignancy, and to help treat chronic inflammatory diseases associated with or leading to induce cancer in susceptible cells. The composition can be produced at low temperatures through reactive shear milling. Delivery methods include ingestion, topical application, topical buccal application, inhalation, or injection when used as a medicament or as a food supplement.

摘要： Nitrogen in a form suitable for feeding a population of microbes in a bioreactor is produced by reacting nitrogen gas and hydrogen gas to form ammonia plus an unreacted gas stream under conditions favorable to having little unreacted nitrogen gas in the unreacted gas stream. The ammonia, or a compound derived from the ammonia is fed to the microbes and the unreacted gas stream is optionally fed back into the reaction, or fed into the bioreactor. Oxygen can be produced, such as by electrolysis, and also provided to the microbes. Hydrogen from the electrolysis can be added to the hydrogen being reacted with nitrogen gas, and/or can be added to the bioreactor. Where nitrogen gas is produced from air separation, the residual gases can be another source of oxygen.

摘要： Integrated biorefineries are provided that integrate biomass cultivation with processing to convert cultivated biomass to a fuel, and further integrate carbon recovery from the biomass processing. Biomass processing to fuels begins in a treatment system, such as a hydrothermal treatment system, that produces an organic phase that is suitable for refining to a fuel and also produces a waste stream. The biorefinery optionally includes a dewatering system, a refining system to convert the organic phase to the fuel, and a cogeneration system configured to use at least some of the fuel produced by the treatment system to generate electricity and heat that can be used for biorefinery operations.

摘要： Systems and methods for employing chemoautotrophic micro-organisms to capture carbon from industrial waste are provided. An exemplary system comprises an industrial source, such as a cement plant, and a bioreactor including the micro-organisms. The bioreactor is fed the waste stream from the source, which provides carbon to the micro-organisms, and is also fed hydrogen, from which the micro-organisms derive their energy. Additional or alternative carbon can be provided from a gasifier fed an organic feedstock. The carbon provided to the micro-organisms is converted into chemical products which can be recovered from the bioreactor. Hydrogen can be produced by electrolysis using electricity generated by a renewable energy source.

Exemplary articles for conveyance include semiconductor wafers and substrates for display devices and photovoltaic devices. In some embodiments, the conveyance section includes a turnstile wheel including an interior surface and an exterior surface. The external surface is configured to guide an exterior belt that in turn supports one side of the article around the conveyance path. The internal surface is configured to either support an opposing side of the article, or guide an interior belt that in turn supports the article around the conveyance path. Instead of employing a turnstile wheel, other embodiments employ interior and exterior supports for supporting opposite ends of the article, such as interior and exterior belts, that move at essentially the same angular rate along the inside and outside of the conveyance path.

摘要： Susceptors are provided that employ layers of CTE-matching materials to reduce the stresses that otherwise lead to cracking and failure. Exemplary CTE-matching materials include metal alloys of aluminum and silicon that can be tailored to specific CTE values by adjusting the ratio of the elements. An exemplary susceptor comprises a CTE-matching material that accommodates the differences in the CTEs of a ceramic material and a thermal barrier layer disposed on opposite sides of the CTE-matching material. Methods are also provided for forming susceptors. These methods comprise assembling the components and bonding the assembly together, such as by diffusion bonding, to produce a susceptor that is a monolithic body.
