摘要： A method for controlling a tape motor using a microcontroller for feeding tape in correspondence to printing of an indeterminate length of printing on the tape by a print drum utilizes a sensor for indicating a tape condition which changes in accordance with the engagement of a printing portion of the print drum with the tape. An optical sensor and slotted disk provide signals indicative of the rotation of a motor shaft of the tape motor. At least first and second counters are provided for counting signal pulses from said optical sensor corresponding to the passage of slots during rotation of the motor. From these counts and the indication of printing by the print drum, the micro controller can develop the timing of control signals for controlling the motor in correspondence to the length of printing on the tape.

摘要： A mailing machine 10 is disclosed in which a digital printing device 50, preferably of the ink jet type, is mounted for movement between one of two printing positions, in one of which the printing device will print a postage indicia direction on envelopes being fed through the mailing machine, and in the other of which the printing device prints the postage indicia on a strip of tape which is extracted from the mailing machine and affixed to an envelope which is incapable of being fed through the mailing machine. There is also a third position A for the printing device which is a maintenance position to which the printing device is moved after each or some other predetermined number of printing cycles for the purpose of cleaning the ink ejecting portion of the printing device and/or maintaining a suitable high ink solvent vapor atmosphere adjacent to the ink ejecting portion of the printing device.

The mailing machine includes: an elongate feed deck; a postage meter mounted in the mailing machine and having a printer downstream of the feed deck for printing a postage indicia with or without an advertisement on successive envelopes as they are fed along the feed deck or on postage tape; and a tape feeding and cutting apparatus mounted in the mailing machine for feeding postage tape to the postage meter for printing of the postage indicia with or without advertisement and for cutting the postage tape into finite lengths and ejecting the lengths of tape from the mailing machine. The tape feeding and cutting apparatus includes: a device for storing a supply roll of tape of indefinite length; a device for feeding tape from the tape supply roll to the postage meter printer for printing of the postage indicia with or without advertisement on a portion of the tape; a device for sensing when the postage meter printer has completed printing the postage indicia with or without advertisement; a device for retracting an amount of tape from the postage meter printer as determined by the sensing device which will result in an appropriate, finite length of tape being cut by the tape feeding and cutting apparatus; a device for cutting the printed portion of the tape from the roll of tape; and a device for ejecting the cut, printed portion of tape from the mailing machine, whereby the cut, printed portion of tape includes only the amount of tape necessary for the printing of the indicia with or without advertisement regardless of the length of any advertisement printed.

摘要： An apparatus and method have been conceived for using a digital audio tape (DAT) in an audio logger for the purposes of storing and retrieving audio data. This is accomplished in a manner such that the data is received and recorded in a time related manner. Provision is made for accommodating the transfer drive rate of the DAT through use of a buffer between the signal processor of the logger and the DAT. In addition, the method of storing the data results in greater use of the available space on the DAT as the DAT tape only writes for those periods when audio is present on a channel.

摘要： A combination of a liquid-containing bag and a tube 28 is disclosed. The bag may be a urine drainage bag and is made up of a pair of superposed sheets 20, 22, joined by a weld 24 whose configuration is chosen to define in a single welding operation the outline of the bag and the tube integral therewith. A single weld seam 24 defines the bag volume. The tube and portion of the weld seam 24 run adjacent to one another and are separated by a row of perforations 30 or by a line of weakening. In such an arrangement, means are provided for precluding face-to-face contact of selected parts of the inner surfaces of said sheets. This may be done by effecting heat shrinkage of selected parts of one or both sheets. One or preferably both sheets is biaxially oriented.
