摘要： The invention provides an apparatus for the encapsulation of waste materials, the apparatus comprising: (a) a container; (b) a plurality of means for the aeration of the waste materials; and (c) agitation means, wherein the agitation means is rotatably mounted about an axis of rotation in the container and the plurality of aeration means is located on the agitation means. Preferably, the agitation means comprises a lost paddle system and the plurality of aeration means comprises a plurality of projecting elements, these elements most preferably comprising annular louvers. The invention also provides an encapsulation method using the apparatus of the invention. The apparatus and method of the invention are preferably used for the encapsulation of radioactive waste materials, typically comprising uranium and/or its compounds, and avoid the formation of pyrophoric uranium hydride.

摘要： The invention provides a spun yarn comprising recycled carbon fibre, and a method for the production thereof. The recycled carbon fibre comprises discontinuous carbon fibre and, optionally, continuous carbon fibre, and may be recycled from various sources, such as end-of- life waste and manufacturing waste. The yarn which is produced shows the required degree of strength and durability, and can be used in all conventional composite manufacturing operations where virgin yarn is currently employed, such as woven fabric manufacture, unidirectional fabric manufacture, filament winding, pultrusion and the like.

摘要： The invention provides a method for the encapsulation of a nuclear material, which comprises treating the material with an encapsulant, which comprises a cementitious material, such as Portland Cement, and curing, said cementitious material. The method is particularly suitable for the treatment of nuclear fuel materials such as uranium metal, complete Magnox fuel elements, or fuel element debris, for which encapsulation treatments have never previously been known. Such materials may be treated by the method of the invention in order to obtain products which remains stable and monolithic for many hundreds of years, and the invention thereby offers a safe and convenient alternative means of handling other than nuclear fuel reprocessing.

摘要： The invention provides a method for the preparation of iron or iron alloys from iron ore, the method comprising the steps of electrolysing dissolved iron ore in an electrolytic bath comprising at least one molten salt and optionally including dissolved metals, and separating the resulting iron metal or steel. The at least one molten salt is preferably chosen from salts of alkali metals, alkaline earth metals and transition metals, and most preferably includes the oxides and halides of the alkali metals and alkaline earth metals and the halides of iron. In particularly preferred embodiments of the invention, the method comprises either an electrowinning process or a liquid/liquid metal extraction process. By the use of the method of the invention, it is possible to achieve the extraction of iron or iron alloys from iron ores whilst avoiding the generation of any significant quantities of carbon dioxide or carbon monoxide.

The method involves cleaning the soiled substrate by treatment of the moistened substrate with a formulation comprising solid particulate cleaning material and wash water, the method being carried out using the apparatus of the invention. The apparatus and method find particular application in the cleaning of textile fabrics.

摘要： The invention provides dye mixtures for application to human hair, the dye mixtures comprising polyphenolic materials, these materials being obtained from botanical sources. Preferably, the botanical source is fruit, especially fruit selected from blackcurrants, blackberries, blueberries, bilberries, cranberries, grapes, chokeberries, Saskatoon berries, sea-buckthorn, mulberries acai, cherries, red cabbage and/or figs. Preferably, the polyphenolic materials comprise anthocyanin compounds which, most preferably, are aglycone anthocyanidins or glycosylated anthocyanins of the formula (III), wherein R 1 and R 2 are, independently, H, OH or OCH 3 , R 3 is OH (aglycone anthocyanidins) or a glycosyl group (glycosylated anthocyanins), and x is a counter-ion. The invention also provides methods for the preparation of these dye mixtures and for the use of the dye mixtures in the semi-permanent coloration of human hair.
