    • Disclosed is a two-fiber optical ring network having a plurality of nodes linked by first and second fiber optic links, wherein each node comprises a first splitting section for splitting optical signals from optical signals traveling through the first fiber into the protection channels; a first add/drop section for performing adding and/or dropping optical signals passing through the first splitting section to a plurality of channels; a first switching section for combining optical signals in the protection channels to the first fiber when there is no link failure between adjacent nodes and for combining optical signals in the protection channels to the second fiber when there is a link failure between adjacent nodes; and, a controlling section for identifying whether or not the optical link failure occurs in the fibers and for generating a control signal to activate a restoration process according to the identified outcome.

    • An apparatus for converting pulse code modulation (PCM) signals in a telecommunication system between two different modulation standards. In the apparatus, a channel selector generates a channel select signal for identifying at least one channel of the multiple channels containing input digital signals modulated by said one of said two different modulation standards. A first codec demodulates a signal on a channel designated by the channel select signal which is modulated by the first modulation standard, into an analog signal to be supplied to a second codec, which modulates the converted analog signal input into a digital signal using the second modulation standard. The reverse process is executed in a similar manner. A second codec using the second modulation standard demodulates a digital signal on the channel designated by the channel select signal into an analog signal to be supplied to the first codec, and the first codec in turn modulates the converted analog signal into a digital signal using the first modulation standard. As a result, the present invention is able to convert pulse code modulation signals from either one of two different modulation standards to the other one of said two different modulation standards in a telecommunication system.

    • Disclosed is a method for maintaining wavelength-locking of a Fabry-Perot laser regardless of a change of external temperature even though a temperature controller is not used, and a wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) light source using the method, as an economical light source used in a WDM optical communication field. The WDM light source comprises a Fabry-Perot laser for injecting spectrum-spliced incoherent light to amplify and output only an oscillation mode matching with a wavelength of the injected light, and a bias controlling unit for adjusting a bias current supplied to the Fabry-Perot laser to a value adjacent to a threshold current of the Fabry-Perot laser, whose threshold current is changed according to a temperature and a relationship between the injected light changed depending to a temperature and a wavelength of the oscillation mode. Therefore, the bias current having a value adjacent to the threshold current of the Fabry-Perot laser is supplied to the Fabry-Perot laser, so that the Fabry-Perot laser can maintain an excellent transmission characteristic regardless of a change of temperature even though a temperature controller is not used.
