    • Methods and apparatus for performing efficient blind transport format (TF) detection in wireless communication systems are disclosed based on TF groups and efficient hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) assisted blind TF detection for retransmissions. When a receiver detects a failure for an initial transmission, a transmitter receives an HARQ negative acknowledgement (NACK) or no feedback from the receiver beyond a certain duration. The transmitter uses the same transport format combination (TFC) for a first retransmission as is used for the initial transmission for data detection, and if the first retransmission fails and after the transmitter gets the HARQ NACK or no feedback from the receiver beyond the certain duration, the transmitter uses a next more robust TFC for a second retransmission and the receiver should also to use next more robust TFC for data detection for the second retransmission from the transmitter. Alternatively, the transmitter uses the next robust TF for the first retransmission.

    • A method and apparatus for securing location information and access control using the location information are disclosed. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) includes a location sensing entity and a subscriber identity module (SIM). The location sensing entity generates location information of the WTRU and the location information is embedded in a message in an SIM. A trusted processing module in the WTRU verifies integrity of the location information. The trusted processing module may be on the SIM. The location information may be physical location information or contextual location-related information. The trusted processing module is configured to cryptographically secure and bind the location information to the WTRU, and verify trust metrics of an external entity prior to granting an access to the location information or accepting information from the external entity. The trusted processing module may be a trusted computing group (TCG) trusted platform module (TPM) or mobile trusted module (MTM). The location information may be used for an authentication purpose or access control. The location information may be combined with time information.

    • A method and apparatus for implementing an attachment procedure in multi-mode systems are disclosed. A wireless communication system includes at least one of a second generation (2G) system, a third generation (3G) system, a long term evolution (LTE) and system architecture evolution (SAE) of the 3G system and a non-3G system. For performing an attachment procedure, a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) sends an attach request message to a new serving general packet radio service (GPRS) support node (SGSN) indicating an attach type. The new SGSN and the WTRU then perform an attachment procedure based on the attach type. The attach type may indicate a GPRS only attachment, a GPRS and SAE attachment, or a 3GPP and non-3GPP attachment.
