    • method and structure is disclosed for isolating the shield of a shielded conductor system from a low frequency power source to which the shield may be connected. In a preferred embodiment, the isolation technique includes providing an interruption in the conductor's shield and situating within the interruption dielectric and magnetically absorptive material so as to create at least a pair of capacitances across the interruption, and such that the capacitances are separated by magnetically absorptive material. In this manner, low frequency isolation is achieved and the field within the cable is shielded from ambient high frequency electromagnetic interference which could otherwise leak through the interruption into a desired high frequency signal path within the conductor.

    • The present invention permits a teletext system operator to adjust subscriber access to service levels individually by adjusting a code at the head end station. A head-end station transmits a tier description page and a tier authorization page. The tier description page divides the data base into a group of tiers each comprising a defined range of pages. The authorization page lists authorization codes for all subscribers, one code per subscriber. Each subscriber station includes a permanent location code. When access is requested by the subscriber, the subscriber station uses the location code to acquire the authorization code transmitted by the head-end station. The authorization code indicates which tiers the subscriber station may decode. To change the service, the system operator may change the authorization codes at the head-end station or change the range definitions for the service level tiers.

    • The front end of a microwave receiver includes a waveguide with one wall comprised partially of the conductive ground plane of a printed circuit board. On the opposite side of the circuit board is mounted receiver front end circuitry including packaged, discrete devices and integrated circuits. An RF probe is inserted through the circuit board and into the waveguide for picking up a signal incident thereon and providing it to the aforementioned receiver front end circuitry. Incorporated in the waveguide is a cavity also partially formed from the ground plane of the receiver circuit board and containing a dielectric resonator element which, in combination with an oscillator located on the circuit board, provides a reference frequency for mixing with the received signal in generating an IF signal which is then provided to IF signal processing circuitry. The integrated RF receiver/waveguide is compact, incorporates readily available components in an inexpensively manufactured structure, and is particularly adapted for the front end of an SHF receiver such as utilized to receive satellite television signals.

    • The invention is directed to an X-Y co-ordinate detection system of the type which generates intersecting paths of radiation across a surface which may be, for example, a touch panel of the cathode ray tube type. Less expensive and more reliable operation is provided by developing the paths of radiation by use of radiation-emissive material disposed near at least one edge of the surface and excited by a flying spot of energy, such as an electron beam. In the preferred embodiment, strips of infrared emissive material are disposed on an internal surface of a cathode ray tube's panel and excited by overscanning the tube's electron beam to develop intersecting paths of infrared radiation across the tube's faceplate.

    • An electronic image framing circuit is described for eliminating the visible effects of pincushion distortion at the edges of a television image. Toward this end, portions of video lines which extend beyond a selected straight line image boundary are blanked by a pulse processor. The pulse processor responds to conventional horizontal rate and vertical rate pulses for developing blanking pulses whose widths are varied at a vertical rate. The modified blanking pulses are applied to a conventional blanking circuit for blanking the portions of video lines which extend beyond the desired image area. A parabola generator is also described for use in developing the modified blanking pulses.
