摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manage the answer capacity of the interactive broadcasting system by receiving an answer as to an interactive application and storing the received answer in a memory when there is usable memory capacity in a broadcast receiver. SOLUTION: A broadcast server 110 as a computer system which executes a software program receives the interactive application 115 by the broadcast receiver 120 which can executes it and determines whether or not the memory device in the broadcast receiver 120 has usable memory capacity as to one answer having an answer type having a higher priority value than an answer to the received interactive application 115 and an answer of a specific time. When it is decided that the memory capacity is available, the answer is received for the interactive application 115 and the received answer is stored in the memory device.

The interactive applications include reminder interactive applications which have reminder data which describe a future time for displaying a reminder and a description of the event for which the reminder is desired. The broadcast programs and reminder interactive applications are received in broadcast receiver which displays the programs. A viewer viewing a program signals the broadcast receiver to establish a reminder for an event related to the program. The broadcast receiver stores the reminder data from the reminder interactive application, and initiates a timer that expires at the desired future time. When the timer expires, the broadcast receiver displays the event description for the reminder. Reminders may be established and displayed for both broadcast events and non-broadcasts events, as the description of the event is contained in the reminder data.

摘要： A system and method provide sophisticated analysis of program viewership by executing interactive applications that generate responses describing the viewers' behavior. A broadcast server maintains a database of interactive applications each preferably associated with a program that will be broadcast. The interactive applications preferably include monitoring interactive applications that are configured to selectively monitor viewership, interactive application usage, and reception terminal usage. When the program is broadcast, the monitoring interactive application is inserted into the broadcast feed and delivered to a broadcast receiver such as a television set-top box. The broadcast receiver includes a processor, memory, and other hardware necessary to execute the interactive application. When executed, the interactive application monitors usage of the broadcast receiver, including, for example, the program watched by the subscriber, the entry and exit paths to the program, whether the volume was changed during the program, and the usage of interactive applications. The monitored data is sent in a response packet to a local data center at, for example, the cable headend. The local data center supplements the response with subscriber information from one or more subscriber databases, including marketing information such as the subscriber's age, race, and income. Information about all of the subscribers is aggregated by the local data center and transmitted to a master data center. The master data center aggregates all of the received information, supplements it if possible with additional subscriber information, and provides reports to the broadcaster indicating the geographic, demographic, and psychographic profiles of the program viewers.
