摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate the necessity to install a virus inspection program in each computer by providing a means for implementing virus inspection at a gateway node. SOLUTION: A system for detecting and eliminating viruses on a computer network comprises an FTP proxy server for controlling the transfer of files, and an SMTP proxy server for controlling the transfer of mail messages. The FTP proxy server and SMTP proxy server run concurrently with the normal operation of the system and operate in such a manner that viruses included in the files and messages transmitted to and received from the network are detected before transmitted and received. The FTP proxy server and SMTP proxy server carry out virus inspection on all received files/messages and transmitted files/messages before the transfer and transfer the files and messages only when they contain no virus. 摘要： In an Internet or Intranet environment, a proxy server (or router or intelligent switch or firewall) which supports a number of clients (e.g. web browsers) has additional functionality which allows it to deliver a software module to a particular client depending on characteristics of that client. This downloaded module is then executed by the client which sets up a bidirectional communications link between the proxy server and the client. This bidirectional link allows for instance a status display at the client, by use of a window on the client platform, indicating the current status of proxy server activity such as virus scanning, content filtering, bandwidth usage, etc. In other applications the downloaded module allows provision of a organizational bulletin board, news channel, or provider of common software patches.
