    • Ceramic electrical resistors having a coherent, non-porous structure, high dielectric constants, high power factors and medium to low resistivities consist of a fired mixture containing, as major ingredients, titanium oxide and one or more of the oxides of chromium, vanadium, or copper, with or without iron oxide, the molal proportion of titanium oxide to the other oxides being not more than 20 : 1. The final mass may contain single or double titanates, or one or more titanates mixed with titanium oxide. When two or more oxides in addition to titanium oxide are present, the composition is preferably formed from preformed titanates. Firing-temperatures are dependent on the compositions and the desired properties. By varying the proportions, bodies of differing characteristics can be obtained, e.g., bodies of low resistivity may be used as volume controls for radio circuits, safety valves for high-frequency circuits, dry rectifiers, or photosensitive devices; for resistors for electric furnaces; in assemblies requiring semiconducting surfaces to eliminate static interference etc.; or, due to a variation in the resistance of some compositions in proximity to the human body, as burglar and like alarms.
