    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an intravenous needle assembly having dedicated rigid wing structures for stabilizing the needle assembly relative to a patient.SOLUTION: A safety needle device comprises: a notch on an outer surface; an elongated housing 12 having a longitudinal slot 32 extending along the housing between the proximal end and the distal end; a pair of rigid wind structures 22 extending outward from an outer surface of the elongated housing; a hub 14 movably mounted within the housing; a hollow needle 16 extending distally from the hub; a dorsal fin member 30 which is fixedly attached to the hub along the entire length thereof, and has a length extending outward through the slot, the hollow needle being covered by the housing when the dorsal fin member is adjacent to the proximal end of the slot, and the hollow needle being exposed when the dorsal fin member is adjacent to the distal end of the slot; and a projection which rotatably connects the dorsal fin member outside the housing so as to engage the notch on the elongated housing when the dorsal fin member is adjacent to the distal end of the slot.
