    • In a tackle comprising tackle blocks (10, 11) with sheaves or pulleys (12,13) and a tackle fall (15) passed over the pulleys, both end portions (16, 17) of the fall are releasably fastened to one (10) of the tackle blocks by means of a locking device (23). This means that the user may operate the tackle either by pulling one of the tackle end portions and thereby obtain a mechanical advantage which is normal for a tackle of that type, or pull both of the tackle end portions (16, 17) simultaneously, and thereby obtain a mechanical advantage which is only half of that normally obtained.

    • A gripping device for releasably gripping a rope-like member comprises a pair of rope-engaging members defining a pair of opposite, mutually spaced rope engaging surfaces defining a rope passageway therebetween. The rope engaging surfaces are mounted in a frame so as to be moveable in relation to each other such that a force applied to the rope engaging surfaces and acting in one direction of the rope passageway will tend to move the rope engaging members closer to each other towards a locking position, while a force applied to the rope engaging surfaces and acting in the opposite direction of the rope passageway will tend to increase the spacing of the rope engaging surfaces and to move the rope engaging members towards a releasing position. At least one of the rope engaging members is connected to an operating handle by means of a lost motion connection. When the operating handle is moved from an inactive position to an active position the rope engaging members are moved to their releasing position. A releasable retaining member is connected to said at least one rope engaging member and is adapted to retain the rope engaging member in relation to the frame in said releasing position. The operating handle may then be moved back into its inactive position, while the rope engaging members are retained in their releasing position. When it is desired to lock or grip the rope the retaining means may be released.

    • A locking device for selectively locking and releasing a rope or a similar elongated, flexible element comprises a channel-shaped frame and a clamping member which is provided with a handle and is mounted swingably within the frame. The clamping member cooperates with a rope abutment surface defined by the bottom wall so as to clamp the rope, when the clamping member is swung in one direction by means of the handle, and so as to release the rope when the clamping member is swung in the opposite direction. In order to render it possible to arrange the handle in a convenient, protected position within the channel-shaped frame in the rope releasing as well as in the rope locking or clamping position of the clamping member, the clamping member and the handle are separate parts, each of which are independently swingable about a common axis, and the clamping member and the handle may be releasably interconnected by means of releasable coupling means, which may comprise a locking pawl.

    • A gripping device for selectively locking and releasing a flexible member (10), such as a rope, which may be moved over a guide surface (11), comprises a lever (19) which may be swung about an axis (20) and which is mounted in a frame (12). An engaging member 25 is swingably mounted on the lever (19), and by means of an operating handle (23) on which an eccentric (22) cooperating with the lever is mounted, the lever may be moved between a locking position (Fig. 1) and a releasing position (Fig. 2). By movement of the operating handle (23) in a direction towards and beyond the locking position a force-transmitting projection (32) formed on the operating handle (23) may be brought into direct engagement with an abutment surface (33) on the engaging member (25), whereby a particularly strong and quick locking of the flexible member (10) may be performed.

    • A device for gripping or locking a rope or wire comprises a pair of rope engaging members or jaw members defining a pair of oppositely arranged wire engaging surfaces forming a passageway for the rope. The jaw members are mounted in the frame of the gripping device by means of a swinging link suspension including a pair of swinging links. The jaw members are suspended so that the frictional forces acting between the rope and the jaw members cause displacement of the rope engaging surfaces thereon in mutual parallel relationship towards each other, when a pulling force is applied to the rope in a first direction, while the rope engaging surfaces are displaced away from each other, when a pulling force is applied to the rope or wire in a second opposite direction. This means that the rope is pinched between the rope engaging surfaces, when the rope is pulled in the said first direction, and released, when pulled in said second direction. The jaw members may comprise a first jaw member having a U-shaped cross-section with an inner bottom surface defining a first rope engaging surface, and a second jaw member displaceably received within the first jaw member. Corresponding swinging links suspending said first and second jaw members may be mounted pivotally about a common axis and define an angle therebetween, and these swinging members are preferably formed as an integral part. The jaw members may be moved to a rope releasing position by means of an operating handle.
