    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve a satisfactory variation in a gap in a leaf seal. SOLUTION: This leaf seal assembly 20 is provided for providing a seal between a first member and a second member 10. The leaf seal assembly 20 includes a plurality of leaf elements 22 and a first substantially planar cover plate 24a. The leaf elements are arranged in a pack, and a first edge of each leaf element is adjacent to the first cover plate. Each leaf element comprises a first shoulder 30a provided in the first edge, the first shoulder being configured so as to form a first gap 28a between the first edge of each leaf element and the first cover plate over a portion of the first edge.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a blade for a turbomachine by superplastic forming and diffusion bonding a first layer, a second layer and a membrane, the membrane being disposed between the first and second layers. SOLUTION: The method comprises: a process of applying a diffusion bonding stop-off material in a first predetermined pattern between the first layer 16 and the membrane 2 so as to prevent a diffusion bond from forming between the first layer 16 and the membrane 2 across the first predetermined pattern; and a process of applying the diffusion bonding stop-off material in a second predetermined pattern between the second layer 18 and the membrane 2 so as to prevent a diffusion bond from forming between the second layer 18 and the membrane 2 across the second predetermined pattern, wherein the first and second predetermined patterns are arranged so as to allow a diffusion bond to be formed along the blade tip edge, the diffusion bond along the blade tip edge extending across the blade in a chord-wise direction.
