摘要： 111,374. Porter, J. R. Jan. 5, 1917. Floats for aerial machines. - Floats for helicopters and like aerial machines consist of annular collapsible structures of triangular cross-section. The frame of the structure comprises upper rings 1 connected together by radial tubes 2 which are connected by rods 4 to a lower ring 5, the whole being covered with canvas &c. 6. The rods 4 are fitted with springs and arranged to slide through sockets 3, so that the springs absorb the shock of landing, the air within the structure being partly compressed and partly escaping through holes or valves at the top. Upward movement of the rods 4, when alighting on water, is prevented by actuation of bell-cranks 9 so that they come over the upper ends of the rods.

Aerial machines without aerostats; planes, arrangement and construction of; propelling.- In propelling means of the type described in Specifications 4566/09, [Class 114, Ships &c., Propelling &c.], 10,703/11, and 5966/12, guide blades are provided for preventing rotation of the fluid. The fan c, Fig. 1, rotates within a casing a, b, so as to draw fluid in axially and force it radially against the deflecting surface a, which discharges it axially. The fan blades c , Figs. 1 and 2, discharge the fluid against the guide blades g, which have their inner edges curved in the opposite direction to that of the rotaton of the fan.

The engines may be geared to the rotating tank by toothed wheels, or by sprocket-wheels and chains. Alternatively, the engagement of the valve stems with recesses in the ring N may rotate the tank, or a ring may be provided in which the recesses are dispensed with.
