[Class 107] [Also in Group XXIII] In a surface treating machine of the type having a power driven rotary member and a plurality of sweeps carried by and radiating outwards from the rotary member, at least one of the working surfaces, which may be suitable for smoothing cement, polishing, scrubbing or grinding down floors, is disposed with its outwardly directed axis in tangential relation to a circle concentric with the axis of rotation of the rotary member. In one form, a pair of working surfaces or plates 19, 20 are attached to the flanges 13, 12 of each sweep 2 by interconnecting angles 21, 22. The outwardly directed axis of the plate 20 is to the rear of, but in parallel relation to, the vertical plane containing the web 11 of the sweep 2 and passing through the axis of rotation of the rotary member. In a modified form, the outwardly directed axis of the surface may be set at an angle to the vertical plane of the web by welding the angle 21 obliquely across the plate 20, whilst in a further modified form the outwardly directed axes of both plates may be at an angle to the plane of the web. The unwelded portions of the underside of the channel are raised to form supports for the bar or, if rivets have been used to secure the channel to the implement, the bar rests on the rivet heads. [Class 107] [Also in Group XXIII] A road surface levelling machine comprises a rotary base 1 which supports a plurality of radially directed sweeps 2 so mounted that the angle of inclination of each sweep to the working surface may be varied. A motor 5 mounted on a gear housing 4 drives the shaft 11 of the base through a belt-driven pulley 8 and worm gearing 15, 16, rotation of the gear casing being prevented by a handle 9 on which the engine controls 10 are mounted. The shaft 18 of each sweep is supported in bearings 17, 171 formed in the rotary base and this shaft is bifurcated at 19 to enable two surface plates 20 to be secured thereto. The outer ends of the plates 20 are spaced apart by a U-shaped plate 22 which has provided therein a keyhole slot 23 to receive a stud 24 secured to a guard-ring 3. The sweeps may be simultaneously tilted with respect to the working surface by rock arms 27 secured to each shaft 18 co-operating with a spider 25 that is caused to rotate about the shaft 11 by a bell-crank lever 29 and a screwed rod 28. The sweeps 2 may be completely rotated to present a fresh plate to the working surface.
