    • A plate for use in lithographic printing is produced by depositing on a base a coat of a polyfunctional amino-urea-aldehyde resin and/or a sulphonated urea-aldehyde resin and interpolymerizing therewith a second coat of a water soluble monomeric acrylic compound. The base may be of aluminium, zinc, tin, magnesium, lead, chromium, copper or iron and may be oxidized, e.g. by heating, treatment with chromic acid, or anodizing, before coating. Foils, films and paper which may be impregnated with a phenol-formaldehyde resin may also be coated. Suitable acrylic compounds are acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, the ammonium, sodium and potassium salts thereof, acrylamide and methacrylamide.ALSO:A plate for use in lithographic printing is produced by depositing on a base a coat of a polyfunctional amino-urea-aldehyde resin and/or a sulphonated urea-aldehyde resin and interpolymerizing therewith a second coat of a water soluble monomeric acrylic compound. Suitable acrylic compounds are acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, the ammonium, sodium and potassium salts thereof, acrylamide and methacrylamide. The amino-urea-aldehyde resin may be made from 2 or 3 mols. of formaldehyde per mol. of urea and from 2 to 80, preferably 6 to 15% of a polyfunctional amine such as ethylene diamine, diethylenetriamine, triethylenetetramine, tetraethylenepentamine; the condensation products of polyamines leading to amine polymers such as tetraethylenepentamine and epichlorohydrin or tetraethylenepentamine and formaldehyde; the guanidines, the biguanides, the guanylureas and the salts thereof; and the hydroxylamines such as monoethanolamine, diethanolamine, and the like.

Suitable arylic compounds are acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, the ammonium, sodium and potassium salts thereof, acrylamide and methacrylamide. Suitable resins are formed by reacting melamine, formaldehyde and methyl or ethyl alcohol, or melamine, formaldehyde and a polyalkylene polyamine such as diethylene triamine, triethylene tetramine, tetraethylene pentamine, the corresponding polypropylene, 4,41-iminobisbutylamine, 3,31-iminobispropylamine, 3,31,311-nitrilotrispropylamine, a polyethylene-imine or the reaction product of an alkylene diamine or polyalkylene polyamine with an alkylene dichloride, alkylene dichlorhydrin or epichlorhydrin.

A support is treated with a polyfunctional amino-urea-aldehyde resin or a sulphonated urea-aldehyde resin in aqueous solution to result in an hydrophilic layer, and then with a light-sensitive diazo compound which becomes hydrophobic and insoluble on exposure. The support may be of paper, resin impregnated paper or, particularly, of metal and the resin therefor ureaformaldehyde reaction with an amine, polyamine or polyimine, or else reacted with an alkali metal sulphite. Descriptions of producing the resins are provided and amplified by references to foreign Specifications, and the diazo sensitizers are mainly disclosed by similar references. Eight examples describe production of the resin layers and treatment thereof with the condensation product of paraformaldehyde and p-diazo-diphenylamine sulphate as sensitizer.

A support is treated with a modified melamine-aldehyde resin in aqueous dispersion or solution to result in a hydrophilic layer, and then with a light-sensitive diazo compound which becomes hydrophobic and insoluble on exposure. The support may be of paper, resin impregnated paper or, particularly, of metal, the resin therefor of alkylated methylol melamine-formaldehyde wherein methyl or ethyl alcohol is used for etherification, or polyalkylenepolyamine - melamine - formaldehyde for which modification a number of short and long chain polyamines and polyimines are quoted. Descriptions of producing the resins are provided and amplified by references to foreign Specifications concerning such, and the diazo sensitizers are mainly disclosed by similar references. Eight examples describe production of the resin layers and treatment thereof with the condensation product of paraformaldehyde and p-diezo-diphenylamine sulphate as sensitizer.
