[Class 65(i)] In a counterbalanced door for a container, of the kind mounted on an offset horizontal pivot and influenced by a spring serving to counterbalance at least in part the weight of the door, the pivot 2 is located below a lower edge of the container 4, a portion of the door 1 projecting below the pivot, and the spring 5 acts on the lower part of the door. The pivot, which is tubular, is journalled in straps 2 and is carried by brackets 2 . The spring is connected to the pivot by a bolt 6 and to the door by a link 7.

A load container 11 of the type which is lifted from a vehicle carrying it by rollers 12 which engage fixed ramps at the loading station, has flaps which can be allowed to fall from the position shown to a downwardly sloping position in which they engage portions of the platform of the carrier vehicle to couple the container for movement along the ramp by the vehicle. The flaps 17 can be moved to the retracted position shown by handles 19 working in guides 21. Catches 22 for locking the arms 19 are provided on both sides of the vehicle and the catches at opposite sides are released simultaneously by manipulating a handle.

Class 78 (4) Two pairs of ramps, 1, 2 engage corresponding followers 7 on a freight container 8 to support it when the vehicle 6 for carrying it is absent. Each ramp has a horizontal portion 5 on which the followers 7, which may be rollers, tubes or arms, rest and an inclined portion 4 by which the container is removed from the vehicle as an abutment 6A on the vehicle pushes it up the ramps, and by which the container is lowered on to the vehicle as it is pulled off the ramps by a suitable towing connection with the vehicle. If the platform of the vehicle 6 tips the towing connection may comprise a projection on the platform engaged with a fitting on the container by tipping the platform. The ramps may position the container with its floor 9 level with a loading and unloading platform or so that the container is below a loading shoot. Specification 507,893 is referred to.

[Class 78 (iv)] A container is fitted with a downwardly-projecting bar 8, Fig. 3, at the rear adapted to be engaged by the member 11 on the vehicle so that when the loaded vehicle is run between ramps 4, and projections 3 on the container have lifted its base clear of the vehicle, the container is propelled further up the ramp until the member 11 passes under the bar 8. By this means the container is raised sufficiently for an unloaded vehicle to be passed beneath it for re-loading.
