    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To measure the composition of isotopes in a specimen in real time. SOLUTION: A method for measuring the composition of isotopes in a fluid in a geological layer includes steps for: (a) introducing a reference fluid having a known isotope composition into a reference cell; (b) acquiring the specimen of the geological layer; (c) preparing at least one laser beam; (d) scaling at least one parameter of the reference cell; (e) causing a beam to pass through the reference fluid to measure the reference measuring beam before and after passing through the reference fluid; and (f) causing a beam to pass through the specimen to measure the beam before and after passing through the specimen to calculate a first isotope concentration from measured values thus acquired. From the measured values, information is acquired as to carbon isotope compositions of individual compounds in a gaseous hydrocarbon mixture.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a perforating apparatus using shaped charges enabling enhanced performance in a high pressure and high temperature wellbore.
      SOLUTION: The perforating apparatus 50 includes a carrier gun body 52 having a plurality of radially reduced sections 54. The radially reduced sections 54 have a nanocomposite outer layer 72. A charge holder 62 is positioned within the carrier gun body 52. A plurality of shaped charges 56 are supported by the charge holder 62. Each of the shaped charges 56 has an initiation end and a discharge end. The discharge ends of the shaped charges 56 are disposed proximally to the radially reduced sections 54 of the carrier gun body 52 such that the jets formed upon detonation of the shaped charges 56 travel through the radially reduced sections 54. The nanocomposite outer layers 72 of the radially reduced sections 54 enable enhanced performance of the perforating apparatus 50 in the high pressure and high temperature wellbore.
