摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide blow molded containers for packaging "hot-fill" beverages which produces a negative pressure or vacuum in the container, and is able to withstand such changes in pressure without failure.SOLUTION: The improved blow molded plastic container having generally rounded sidewalls that are adapted for hot-fill applications has two adjacent side walls and two pairs of controlled deflection panels, each pair reacting to vacuum pressure at differing rates of movement, whereby one pair inverts under vacuum pressure and the other pair remains available for increased squeezability or extreme vacuum extraction. The opposing sidewalls are symmetric relative to vacuum panel and rib shape and placement. The ribs and controlled deflection panels cooperate to retain container shape upon filling and cooling and also improves bumper denting resistance, decreases vacuum pressure within the container, and increases light weight capability.

The finish portion has an upper surface (18) and an outer surface (20) on which a snap bead (22) is defined. In order to prevent saddling of the upper surface, a plurality of grooves (24) is defined in the outer surface, each of the grooves passing through the snap bead. In addition, the main body portion has an outer surface that defines a substantially rectangular shape with rounded corners when viewed in transverse cross - section. The outer surface of the finish portion also has a substantially rectangular shape with rounded corners when viewed in transverse cross - section. The shape of the finish portion when viewed in transverse cross - section is smaller than the shape of the main body portion. A ledge (34) is defined between the outer surface of the main body portion and the outer surface of the finish portion. The ledge has a first width (W4), adjacent to one of the rounded corners of the finish portion, which is greater than a second width (W5) that is not adjacent to one of the rounded corners of the finish portion.

摘要： An apparatus (10, 10') and a machine (100) for reforming a portion of a plastic package (50) using induction heating. The apparatus and machine comprise a frame (20) engaging the plastic package and a workpiece support (40) having an electrically conducting workpiece (44, 48, 102). An induction workhead (62) provides an alternating current power supply to an induction element (60, 104). The induction element is positioned proximate the workpiece of the workpiece support and heats the workpiece via induction. A mechanism (22) positions the plastic package proximate the heated workpiece so that the workpiece transfers heat to the portion of the plastic package thereby softening the portion. A forming die (30) supported on the frame engages the portion to reform the portion. Also provided is a process of using the apparatus and machine to reform a portion of a plastic package using induction heating.

The tool includes a heated portion, a substantially unheated portion, and an insulating portion disposed between the heated portion and the unheated portion. The heated portion has a higher temperature than the unheated portion and is configured to contact and heat the finish portion to at least a glass transition temperature of the plastic container. The unheated portion is also configured to contact the finish portion of the container. The tool is tapered along a longitudinal axis defined by the tool.

The apparatus includes a rotational drive assembly coupled to a turret assembly arranged to be rotationally driven thereby about a longitudinal axis. The at least one drive mechanism is configured to move the chuck and the first part relative to the second part at a speed sufficient to permanently bond the first part to the second part during rotation of the turret assembly.
