    • A sensor apparatus is described that detects and indicates the quantity of cryogenic liquid in a Dewar container (10) independent of the spatial orientation and physical motions acting on the Dewar container. The sensor apparatus comprises a first conductor (76), preferably positioned adjacent to the container inner shell wall (14) and a second conductor comprising a plurality of axially spaced and concentric conductor bands (78A-78E) mounted inside the container in a proximately spaced and a parallel relationship with respect to the first conductor (76). The second conductor bands (78A-78E) divide the first conductor into zones that provide a plurality of distinct and separate capacitors. A computer measures the capacitance of each capacitor and compares the individual capacitance measurements to reference capacitance values corresponding to a known quantity of cryogenic fluid filled in the container at known angles of inclination. The sensor apparatus is also useful as a motion detector.

    • A motion responsive alarm system including a motion sensor (10) having a housing with a rotatable disk (12) therein, a slot (34) in the disk and a ball bearing (32) in the slot and being loosely confined within an annular chamber (30) in the housing surrounding the disk. The disk contains a plurality of orifices (22) which pass between an LED (24) on one side of the disk and a phototransistor (26) on the other. A signal from the phototransistor is sent to a triggering circuit (51, 89, 100, 102) by interrupting light transfer between the LED and the phototransistor. The circuit includes a novel oscillator (60) having a duty cycle of 10 % which drives the LED in the sensor. The device may be coupled to a self-contained breathing apparatus (104, 106, 150, 152, 154-160, 162, 164, 166, 168) and is energized only when the breathing apparatus mask (156) is being worn by the user.

    • A hydraulic wheel drive system comprises a fluid source (12), at least two wheel drive motors (20, 20'), a pump (14) connected between the fluid source and the motors, at least two flow restrictions (22, 22'), and at least two load reaction compensators (24, 24'). Each motor drives at least one wheel (W, W') at varying speeds responsive to varying fluid flow rates supplied from the source. Each flow restriction (22, 22') is positioned between the pump and at least one motor, and varies the flow rate to at least one motor responsive to upstream pressure changes. Each compensator (24, 24') is connected between the pump and at least one restriction, and controls pressures upstream from at least one restriction to control the respective wheel speed. Each compensator maintains a first constant upstream pressure when the downstream pressure is below a first value, and a second constant upstream pressure when the downstream pressure is above a second value.

    • A face mask for covering the nose and mouth of the wearer for supplying breathing gas thereto and a pair of strapless goggles which are easily and quickly donnable. The goggles are detachably attachable to the face mask by a tongue-and-groove connection wherein the tongue of the goggles is snapped into the face mask groove. Buttons are provided at the groove entrance for locking the tongue in the groove, the goggles being removable by depressing the buttons and sliding the tongue out over the depressed buttons. A face mask strap is coupled with hooks on the goggles frame for holding the goggles sealingly against the wearer's face. A vent is provided for supplying breathing gas to the goggles for venting thereof so as to prevent the entrance of smoke or disabling gases and to defog the lens.
