    • The device is of the type comprising a guide rail (1) mounted on the post (2) of the vehicle and on which is movable the strap return element (3). The return element comprises a first planar portion (8) from which extend two wings (9) disposed on each side of the guide rail (1) and between which wings is provided a blocking plate (11) which extends behind the rail, is downwardly inclined toward the rear side of the rail and cooperates with locking means (12) provided on the rear side of the rail for locking the strap return element (3) in position. Elastic means (13) are provided for biasing the blocking plate (11) to the locking position and the first planar portion (8) of the strap return element (3) to a position in which it bears against the front side of the rail (1). The strap return element includes a second portion (14) which is angularly offset relative to the first portion (8) and which is actuatable by a user for disengaging the blocking plate (11) from the locking means (12) and thereafter shifting the strap return element (3).

    • A support structure is provided with two flanges (41,42) between which the steering column (43) is arranged.     • An adjustable steering column unit includes a steering shaft having one end carrying a steering wheel and the opposite end connected to the rest of the steering mechanism, the shaft being movable in rotation in a column body (4), the body and/or the shaft being angularly and/or axially movable between two flanges of a fixing structure (5) for fixing the body to the remainder of the automobile vehicle, and the fixing structure comprising, at one end, locking means for locking the body in position and movable between locking and unlocking positions to permit the adjustment of the position of the steering wheel and, in proximity to the other end of the fixing structure, a guide bearing (7) for the body. The bearing (7) has a yoke portion, having a U-shaped section, of the fixing structure (5), in which is disposed a bushing (8) for mounting the body (4) without play. Opposed lateral walls of the bushing are connected to the flanges (7a,7b) of the yoke portion. The bushing includes an opening (8a) for receiving the body.

    • The connection has two inserted tubes, one of which, the outer tube (6), is enlarged in order to form a casing (8) for housing two support pads (10) which are held tightly between the two tubes and a radial projection (12) of the inner tube. A gasket (14, 15) with a section in the shape of a recumbent V and which has a cylindrical flange for bearing against the inner tube and a convex flange for bearing against the outer tube, is mounted on each of the ends of the casing (8). The two gaskets face in opposite directions and are fitted onto the pads which hold them tightly. The convex flange (18) is preferably spherical only for a part of its length. This spherical part forms the surface for rubbing against the casing and enables a relative displacement of these two members with no risk of the tightness failing.
