    • PURPOSE: To surely discharge a molten metal zone easily solidified through a flowing passage at the tapping time by enlarging the flowing cross section of the flowing passage from a flowing inlet of the molten metal to a flowing outlet. CONSTITUTION: In a closing device for metallurgical molten metal vessel, in which a refractory outer tube 4 and a refractory inner tube 5 supported in this outer tube are provided, and the outer tube and the inner tube are provided respectively with at least one of closing hole 9, 11. Either one of the tubes is shiftable from the closing position to the flowing position in relation to the other tube, and these closing holes exist in the flowing passage 7 extended from the flowing inlet to the flowing outlet 12 at the rear part of the closing holes in the inner tube in view of the flowing direction. The flowing cross section of the flowing passage has such feature as to gradually enlarge from the flowing inlet to the flowing outlet.

    • PURPOSE: To increase the quantity of heat supplied to a material to be heated by reducing the direct reflection of radiant heat by forming the wall surfaces of a depression, in such a way that the radiant heat from one wall surface comes into collision with the other wall surface and, in addition, is absorbed into a lining brick. CONSTITUTION: Each lining brick 1 has a plurality of notches 2 open onto the internal space 4 of a furnace. The bricks 1 are assembled in such a way that the adjacent two notches 3 of each adjacent bricks 1 form a depression 5 which opens onto the internal space 4 of the furnace in an opened cross section A. The depression 5 has side walls 7 continuously formed from a bottom 6 which is formed in such a way that the radiant heat which comes into collision with the bottom 6 from the internal space 4 is reflected to the side walls 7 and absorbed into the side walls 7. Since most of the heat is reflected by the lining bricks 1 in the depression 1 in such a way, the direct reflection of the radiant heat to the internal space 4 of the furnace is reduced. Therefore, the heat absorbed into the lining bricks 1 is discharged into the internal space 4 and effectively supplied to a material to be heated.
