摘要： A fundamental component of COMP B, (i.e)., the trinitrotoluene (TNT) melt-cast, is replaced with one or more mononitro-substituted arenes or dinitro-substituted arenes, such as dinitronanisole, to permit melt casting without presenting the toxicity drawbacks experienced with the use of TNT. Also included in the COMP B replacement formulation are coarse oxidizer particles and thermal stabilizers. Exemplary thermal stabilizers are alkylnitroanilines and arylnitroanilines. The thermal stabilizer combines with the melt-cast binder to lower the overall melting temperature of the melt-cast composition, preferably into a range of from 80 °C to 90 °C, while raising the autoignition temperature of the composition. In one preferred embodiment, the high impact and shock sensitivity commonly associated with melt-cast explosives such as COMP B is mitigated by providing at least a portion of the energetic filler (e.g., RDX) in a fine powder form.

摘要： This thermoplastic elastomer is present in a substantially solid state suitable for use as a binder for a propellant, explosive, and/or gas generant of a supplemental restraint system. The thermoplastic elastomer is formed from a composition including A blocks which are crystalline at temperatures below about 75°C and B blocks which are amorphous at temperatures above about -20°C. The A blocks are derived from oxetane derivatives and/or tetrahydrofuran derivatives. The B blocks are derived from oxetanes, tetrahydrofuran, oxiranes, and derivatives thereof. The A and B blocks are end-capped with at least one diisocyanate and linked with at least one difunctional oligomer having two functional groups which are reactive with free and unreacted isocyanate moieties of the diisocyanate.

The explosive formulation includes CL-20 as an explosive ingredient, and a binder system including cellulose acetate butyrate as a non-energetic binder and bis-dinitropropyl acetal and bis-dinitropropyl formal as an energetic plasticizer. The CL-20 may be present in the explosive formulation in a concentration of from about 85 wt.% to about 96 wt.%. The formulation is preferably sufficiently pressable and/or extrudable to permit it to be formed into grains suitable for ordnance and similar applications, including use as grenades, land mines, missile warheads, and demolition explosives.
