    • Steering apparatus for a tramming conveyor (10) having at least one end (14) articulated about a vertical axis so that said articulated end (14) can deviate angularly in either direction about the longitudinal axis of the conveyor (10). The steering apparatus basically comprises a control apparatus (41) which is coupled to an external apparatus (31, 46, 47) in a manner to communicate a deviation of the articulated end (14) of the tramming conveyor (10) from alignment with the external apparatus (31). The control apparatus (41) generates an output responsive to the steering apparatus which will result in a deviation of the articulated end either to the right or left of the external apparatus, such steering apparatus will continue the deviation of the articulated end of the tramming conveyor until the tramming conveyor is again realigned with the external apparatus.

    • A sprocket (26) drive system for a chain conveyor comprises a motor (15) driven transmission which is coupled to a planetary gear unit (16) for speed reduction. The output sprocket (26) is located near the center between the motor (15) and the planetary gear unit (17). To make the combination more compact in size and efficiency, the drive from the motor (15) is transmitted by means of a shaft (48) coaxially through the drive shaft of the planetary gear unit (17) and through the drive shaft of the transmission unit (35). The coaxial shaft (48) is then coupled to the transmission unit (17) input shaft (36). The transmission output shaft (38) is coupled to the planetary gear box and then to the drive sprocket (26).
