    • Purple pigments according to the invention based on a stovable support material, in particular a glass frit, having a coat applied by coprecipitation of an oxide hydrate of one or more elements from the range comprising Al, Si, Sn, Pb, Ti, Nb, Ta, Sc, Y, La, Ce and Zn and a water-insoluble gold compound or colloidal gold are distinguished from prior art pigments of a similar composition by improved color stability in high temperature firing. The pigments are obtainable in the aqueous phase by coprecipitation of an oxide hydrate and a gold compound or colloidal gold in the presence of a support material and in the absence of a reducing agent. Pigments containing gold compounds assume a purple color on heat treatment or by chemical reduction. Preferred pigments containing gold compounds, which may directly be used as decorative colorants, conveniently develop their color during firing of the decoration.

    • This invention provides a new lead-free glass composition, a glass frit of this composition, a process for its production and also coloring preparations containing such a glass frit and the use thereof. The glass composition according to the invention contains in mol-%K.sub.2 O 10-17B.sub.2 O.sub.3 10-25TiO.sub.2 15-30SiO.sub.2 35-55Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 0-5Bi.sub.2 O.sub.3 0-5S 0-3 and any oxide from the group consisting of PbO, CdO, ZnO, Li.sub.2 O, Na.sub.2 O, MgO, CaO, SrO, BaO and P.sub.2 O.sub.3 which is present being present in a quality of less than 0.5 wt-% in each case. Glass frits of this composition are very suitable for use in coloring preparations for the production of glass enamels, in particular for panes of glass for automobiles. Glass frits according to the invention can be stoved at low temperatures, exhibit good anti-sticking properties, a high resistance to acids and a diminished migration of silver.

    • Gels based on a network of oxygen-bridged metal and/or semi-metal atoms and produced using a hydrolytic sol-gel process are often not homogeneous. Known non-hydrolytic sol-gel processes give rise to gels containing halogen.A novel non-hydrolytic sol-gel process has been found which gives rise to halogen-free and homogeneous gels and to xerogels obtainable therefrom.In this process, one or more compounds (I) from the series of metal or semi-metal alkoxides, oxoalkoxides, amides or oxoamides are condensed, with elimination of carboxylic acid esters or carboxylic acid amides, until gelation occurs with one or more compounds (II) from the series of metal or semi-metal carboxylates or oxocarboxylates in an anhydrous organic solvent containing no hydroxyl groups.Preferred gels and xerogels contain in the network metal or semi-metal atoms from main group and subgroup III to V and from the rare-earth elements.The gels and xerogels may be used for the production of oxide ceramic materials and for encapsulating pigments.

    • Various organosulfur gold compounds and their use for the production of gold decorations are known.The invention relates to new organosulfur gold compounds, to a process for their production and to their use for the production of preparations for producing a gold decoration on firing-resistant substrates.The gold compounds according to the invention are obtainable from monogold(I) dimercaptosuccinic acid and compounds of similar structure by dissolution thereof in water in the presence of a base and precipitation by acidification and, if desired, repetition of the dissolving and precipitating steps. The gold compounds according to the invention are characterized by a gold content of 60 to 90% by weight, an atomic ratio of greater than 0.7 to 4. Preferred gold compounds are soluble in water and are suitable as a constituent of organic/aqueous and exclusively aqueous bright and burnished gold preparations for the decoration of glass, porcelain and ceramic.

    • Using conventional glass frits for the production of black glass coating compositions makes it necessary also to use a relatively large quantity of black pigments. The quantity of pigment used may be reduced by using black glass frits according to the invention, thin layers of which already have a low transmission. The glass frit according to the invention is black and contains in the glass composition (in mol. %): 10-17% of K.sub.2 O, 10-25% of B.sub.2 O.sub.3, 15-30% of TiO.sub.2, 30 to 55% of SiO.sub.2, 0-5% of Al.sub.2 O.sub.3, 0-5% of Bi.sub.2 O.sub.3, 0.05-3% of Fe.sub.2 O.sub.3 (total iron) and 0.1-3% of sulphur (total sulphur).
