摘要： Hard granular activated carbon is manufactured from sub-bituminous coal by crushing and screening the as received coal to produce granules, treating the granules with a dilute aqueous solution of a saturated aliphatic monocarboxylic acid such as formic or acetic acid, decanting the acid, and drying the granules. The dried granules are mixed with coal tar pitch, and are milled to form fine powder. The powder is compressed into shapes, such as pellets or thin corrugated sheets under high pressure, and then granulated. The reformed granules are devolatilized, without prior charring, by directly heating to and at a temperature higher than the charring temperature in a substantially oxygen-free atmosphere, and then activated by heating to and at a temperature higher than the devolatilizing temperature in an atmosphere containing a gaseous activating agent.

摘要： The device includes a tub (16) which is resiliently mounted and is provided with means for vibrating (21, 22) the same in a generally vertical direction parallel to a rear wall of the tub. The tub rear wall is hollow and is provided on the inner face with perforated crusher plates (37, 38). Sand flow through the crusher plates is down through the hollow rear wall and there is an upwardly directed airwash for the falling sand. The lower portion of the rear wall is in the form of a door mounted for swinging movement about a horizontal axis. The door is operated by a cylinder (47) having an axis parallel to the direction of vibration and the door is opened during the vibration of the tub so as to direct scrap and uncrushed lumps out through the lower portion of the rear wall in the same direction of salvaged sand flow. The crusher plates include a main wall (78) having elongated slots (81) forming the perforations and there are lugs (80) projecting forwardly from the main wall above and below the slots with the vertical dimensions of the lugs and slots and the spacing thereof being in accordance with the amplitude of intended vibration to provide a maximum crushing effect.

摘要： Very high purity powder of silicon carbide in the submicronic field, which can be used as sintering material for producing shaped articles. The preparation of this silicon carbide powder can be done by passage of alkylsilanes in gaseous phase and chemical scission of the alkylsilane at high temperature. Such a process is carried out in particular by passage of the alkylsilanes through a flow reactor; during this passage the gasified alkylsilane is heated up to a temperature range comprised between 450 C and the temperature produced in a plasma burner, so as to obtain the thermal scission, the pulverulent product thus obtained is then collected in a precipitation chamber. An apparatus allowing to obtain the silicon carbide powder comprises: a graphite conduit (1) with conical inlet surrounded by a thermal insulator, a cooling system (5) arranged at the end of the graphite conduit, a water-cooled device allowing to introduce the gas current through a central injector and a circular injector (6) and a device for precipitation of the power (7).

摘要： Hard granular activated carbon is manufactured from subbituminous coal by blending to obtain a uniform mixture including the coal, from about 1% to about 10% by weight of solid boric acid and 0 to about 10% by weight of a carbonaceous binder such as pitch, pulverizing the mixture to form fine powder having a moisture content of not less than about 10% and not more than about 25% by weight prior to compressing the powder into shapes, which are crushed to form 6/20 mesh granules which are subjected to appropriate heat treatment until activated. The activated granules are suitable for liquid or gas phase applications depending upon the amount of acid used.
