    • DEVICES, SYSTEMS, AND METHODS FOR MATERIAL FIXATION An implant system for promoting soft tissue to bone contact in order to promote good fixation of soft tissue to bone when making an orthopedic repair of a joint, said implant system comprising: a first implant (22) adapted for receiving a tissue graft (20) thereon and then being disposed in a first bone tunnel location, wherein ends of the tissue graft (20) extend through a bone tunnel (16) and out of a proximal end of the tunnel (16); a second implant (26) adapted for disposition in a second bone tunnel location, proximal to said first bone tunnel location, said second implant (26) having a length and first and second opposed sides, and comprising a plurality of sheath members (30) having laterally outer surfaces and being adapted for advancing to the first bone tunnel location by sliding over the ends of the tissue graft (20), so that when the second implant (26) is in said second bone tunnel location, the tissue graft (20) is disposed between the laterally outer surfaces of said plurality of sheath members (30) and the bone defining said bone tunnel; a plurality of hinges (52) spaced along the first side of said second implant (26); a plurality of snap fittings (56) spaced along the second opposed side of said second implant (26); and an insertion member (28) insertable between said plurality of sheath members (30) to laterally expand said sheath members (30) toward the tissue graft (20), thereby urging the tissue graft (20) into contact with the bone defining said bone tunnel (16).

    • The present invention provides a novel split barbed fixation device for tenodesis, soft tissue reattachment of tendons and ligaments to bones. The insertion device is adapted for an entirely arthroscopic approach while achieving fixation strength with ultimate pullout resistance comparable to interference screws. The device includes an integrated tendon grasper that provides for easy manipulation of the tendon arthroscopically while eliminating the need for external whip stitching of the tendon, thereby reducing preparation time. The device further includes elements that prevent the fixation implant from being destabilized or rotating during deployment and manipulation, including: a depth limiting sheath, a first implant retainer, a first implant retaining step, a tendon grasping needle tube, and an implant keyway for mating the implant to the tube. The implant itself comprises two separate portions mating along a diagonal and having barbed surface features in opposite directions, only one of which contacts the tendon.
