    • PURPOSE: To make it possible to separate a mixture of sample ions with good reproducibility and stability by causing it to pass a separating column electrophoretically containing an aqueous solution without a gel of a linear polymer having a specific molecular weight. CONSTITUTION: A mixture of sample ions of different molecular weights in a sample is caused to pass a separating column electrophoretically containing an aqueous solution without a gel of a practically linear polymer having a molecular weight of about 10 to about 2×10 . At this time, its molecular weight is in the range of about 0.1 to about 200 times as large as the average molecular weight of high polymers in the mixture, and is large enough to delay the flow of the high molecules passing the separating column to the extent that the concentration of the polymer in the solution changes together with the molecular weight of the high molecules. Besides, one having sample ions of macromolecules, and having a polymer concentration high enough to lengthen the high polymer holding time in at least about 25%/about 35%/about 50% columns is used. Besides, as a polymer one having an average molecular weight being between the minimum molecular weight and the maximum molecular weight of the sample ions in the mixture, is used.

    • PURPOSE: To separate, for example, a complex protein mixture easily and accurately without gel or dissolved substance being distorted and disturbed by providing a slab gel, a piece-shaped gel solution, and a protection layer. CONSTITUTION: When an upper space is placed at a given position, a piece- shaped gel solution 26 is left and is solidified to a gel. When the gel is fully formed, the spacer is loosened. Then, a protection layer 25 is eliminated itself or is left at the site when it is electrically insulated. When the protection layer 25 is in the form of liquid, it is emptied or is sucked and a space is left between two types of gels. Also, the protection layer 25 is a low-melt-point solid or has a melt point within a range of about 25 deg.C to about 75 deg.C. This kind of material is poured in the form of liquid over an upper edge 24 of a slab gel 23, is cooled, and is solidified before the solution 26 is added. Once the latter is solidified, a system is heated again and the protection layer 25 is heated again higher than its melt point, and the layer 25 is returned to liquid shape again and is poured or sucked.
