    • Keyboard trays, laptops and portable computers are provided having a display comprised of a small projector that projects onto a screen instead of a standard LCD or flat panel display that generates images itself. They provide a keyboard tray or portable computer in which a laser, high brightness LED, LCD, LCoS, or other suitable projector module is embedded within the keyboard or base portion of the keyboard tray or portable computer, and the display comprises a reflective projector screen made of plastic or other suitable material protected by a thin cover made of plastic or other suitable material. They provide a keyboard tray or portable computer display that is thinner, more durable and more easily and economically repaired than typical LCD and other flat panel displays.

    • Methods and systems are provided that handle certain keystrokes or keystroke combinations on a remote station so that a user may select whether those keystrokes are sent to a target device, or whether they affect a remote station controlling the target device. Such systems allow the user to select which keystrokes, or keystroke combinations are sent to the target device, the remote station, or both. This allows the user the flexibility to tailor a remote KVM presence. These systems intercept keystrokes entered on the remote station and route them according to pre-selected criteria determined by the user. To intercept the keystrokes the software running on the remote station installs a low-level keyboard hook. This hook allows the software to view and route the keystrokes before the remote station's operating system gets notified of the keystroke.

    • A improvement to video compression techniques is described in which blocks of video input information are compared in their respective pixel values to corresponding blocks of immediately preceding frames. The blocks are analyzed to determine whether change has occurred in accordance with two tests. First, the pixel values of the block are compared to the pixel values of a preceding block and if a threshold number of pixel values in the block exceed their counterparts by a threshold amount, then the block is assumed to have changed and is communicated via a standard communication protocol, compression technique and media. Second, even if the threshold number of pixels in the block has not changed, the pixel values are compared with their prior frame counterparts to determine if any one pixel value has changed in magnitude more than a second threshold amount. Again, one such pixel is identified, then the block is assumed to have changed and is communicated.
