SOLUTION: The catheter 10 includes a withdrawal lumen 16 and a supply lumen 18 each having unjoined segments of a distal split tube 22 and an intermediate joined segment 20. The split tube segment of the supply lumen is provided with a sidewall aperture. The stiffening tube extends through a withdrawal split tip tube, out the distal end of the withdrawal split tip tube, through the aperture of a supply split tip tube and through the supply split tip tube distal end of the aperture, and out the distal end of the supply split tip tube. When the stiffening tube is positioned inside the catheter, the aperture is adjacent to the withdrawal split tip tube distal opening so as to minimize the exposure of the stiffening tube and to provide a smooth exterior profile.

摘要： The present invention provides an improved system and method for treating atrial fibrillation using electroporation. The system creates transmural lesions in tissue. At least first and second tissue penetrating, mono-polar electrodes are provided that are configured to be introduced at or near an epicardial tissue site of the heart of the patient. A voltage pulse generator is coupled to the first and second mono-polar electrodes. The voltage pulse generator applies sufficient electrical pulses between the first and second mono-polar electrodes to induce electroporation of cells in the epicardial tissue site to create a trausmural lesion, but insufficient to create a thermal damaging effect to a majority of the epicardial tissue site.
