摘要： In a mailing system (201) for franking a postage indicium (400) serving as a proof of postage, postal data including the postage needs to be communicated through such an indicium (400). Illustratively, the postal data is categorized into (a) invariable postal data (415), e.g., a device ID identifying the mailing system, which is unaffected by a franking transaction, and (b) variable postage data (420), e.g., the postage, which may change from one franking transaction to another. To avoid latency of the franking operation, the invariable postal data (415) is preset for initial printing of the postage indicium (400), and the variable postal data (420) is determined and set for printing in real time. In printing the postage indicium (400), the invariable postal data (415) and the variable postal data (420) are presented in that order in one or more symbols.

摘要： In a franking system a postal security device (PSD) tracks a postage fund for dispensing postal indicia and enforce the configuration of the franking system. An authorization code, which is particular to the system, is used to verify the system configuration. An unauthorized change in the system configuration causes invalidation of the code and generation of the postal indicia is denied. Data center (125) records configuration information of each franking system (100). The data center generates a valid authorization code for verification in the franking system based on new configuration information. Components added to the system must be preapproved to prevent fraudulent generation of postage indicia. A registration identifier is assigned to each preapproved component which is necessary for interaction with the franking system.

When a history tab is pressed, the display reverts to the previous status of the category of interest, and allows the user to make changes if desired.
