    • A braided packing comprises a plurality of outer core strands, braided together with a plurality of braid strands, the outer core strands extending helically along said packing and forming with the braid strands a braid having a normal twist extending helically in one direction, the braid strands extending over the core strands in a continuous helical pattern at an angle to the outer core strands and the normal helical twist of the braid, and a plurality of warp strands in rows between said braid strands extending helically in a direction opposite said braid strands. Apparatus for making the braided packing comprises a rotatable condenser adapted to grip the braid at the point to which the braid strands extend for braiding together and means for rotating the condenser. The method of braiding comprises rotating the braid at the point at which the braid strands come together.

    • A fluidic feedback pressure regulation system employs one or more fluids within a mechanical seal to control one or more other fluids. The system includes a fluid manifold and a movable differential pressure valve, both of which are completely mounted within a bore in the seal gland. The valve is connected to several fluid distribution networks, so that the valve can establish fluid communication between a regulated fluid (such as barrier or process fluid) and either (1) a high pressure fluid supply to increase the pressure of one of the fluids, or (2) an exhaust vent in order to remove fluid from the fluid distribution, concomitantly reducing the fluid pressure in the seal. All the fluids utilized in the seal are regulated by the pressure system with respect to each other in order achieve, pressure-wise, optimal seal operating conditions. In particular, the fluids can be regulated during use to achieve certain leakage characteristics. The fluidic feedback pressure regulation system can be formed of multiple subsystems, which are combined into one integrated system substantially completely and solely mounted within the gland.

    • An anti-rotation wiper ring for mounting in a pump equipment gland concentrically to the equipment pump rod, the ring having a wiper lip for preventing debris from being carried on the rod retracting within the equipment. Structure prevents the ring from rotating inwardly toward the rod and possibly outwardly thereafter out of the pump. In one embodiment, the wiper ring flange is held in the gland receiver groove via an anti-rotation anchor on the flange bottom surface mating with a gland locking groove on the bottom surface of the gland receiver groove. Alternatively or additionally, a stabilizer device is formed on the ring ID and prevents the ring's inward rotation. The stabilizer has standoffs to allow the passing rod to glide by while a recession above the standoffs reduces drag. Reliefs between the standoffs harmlessly pass any pressure which may escape the pump piston seal. A static seal keeps a potential leakage path closed in between the wiper ring OD and gland receiver groove ID.

    • A seal assembly has a pair of relatively rotatable sub-assemblies adapted to be attached and sealed respectively to relatively fixed and relatively rotatable members to confine the flow of fluid through the space between the members to a restricted passage.
