摘要： A mobile communication system comprises a plurality of cells, with each cell including a network of microstations distributed more or less uniformly throughout the cell. A central controller connected to the network of microstations selects a group of microstations in the vicinity of the mobile terminal to transmit information to the mobile terminal. The selected microstations in the active set for a given mobile terminal is continuously updated as the mobile terminal moves through the network of microstations to form a virtual cell that follows the mobile terminal through the network. Transmission conflicts between two mobile terminals is avoided by inhibiting transmissions from an active microstation to at least one of the co-channel mobile terminals when a transmission conflict is detected.

摘要： The present invention relates to a mobile station capable of determining its current location within a wireless communication system. The mobile station periodically generates an estimate of its current location or mobility and then monitors channels for channel selection based thereon in order to minimize frame stealing while in active mode and save energy during idle mode. The same information is also useful for determining which cells to monitor and controlling how frequently position or changes of position estimates are made. Although the invention requires a determination of the mobile station's position or mobility, the manner in which the mobile station determines these characteristics may vary. A separate positioning receiver, terrestrial or satellite based, such as that used with the Global Positioning System, may allow the mobile station to calculate its position. Alternatively, the mobile station may monitor signals provided during communications with the base stations to calculate a relative position. In yet another embodiment, the base stations and associated cellular systems may cooperate to determine a particular mobile station's position and then download the position to the mobile station.

摘要： Methods and apparatus for preventing tampering with memory in an electronic device, such as a cellular telephone, are disclosed. An electronic device having a memory and a processing means contains logic that is used to perform a one-way hash calculation on the device's memory contents whereby an audit hash value, or signature, of such contents is derived. The audit hash value is compared to a an authenticated valid hash value derived from authentic memory contents. A difference between the audit and valid hash values can be indicative of memory tampering. In accordance with another aspect of the invention, electronic device memory contents can be updated by a data transfer device that is authenticated before being permitted access to the memory contents. Data transfer device authentication involves the use of a public/private key encryption scheme. When the data transfer device interfaces with a electronic device and requests memory access, a process to authenticate the data transfer device is initiated.

SOLUTION: A mobile station includes a measuring device for determining an operating temperature. When the measured temperature exceeds a predetermined threshold temperature, the mobile station informs the system of an index indicating a reduced transmission rate, whereby the system can reallocate released resources, e.g., time slots and/or spreading codes to reduce the transmission rate. Furthermore, the mobile station also inform the user of the change in transmission rates and/or the temperature of the mobile station.
