摘要： A system and method for providing pre-paid wireless telephone customers notification that a wireless telephone account has been replenished. The present invention delivers a confirmation notice directly to a pre-paid wireless telephone customer through the customer's wireless telephone. The notification system receives account replenishment information from a replenishment system and updates its database to indicate a notice must be sent. Because the wireless telephone may or may not be available when the notification system is ready to send the confirmation notice, the system intercepts registration messages sent by the wireless telephone, thereby allowing the notification system to detect when the wireless telephone is available.

In order to avoid the cost involved in having a dedicated phone line for the equipment, the equipment (11B) needs to be able to be woken up in a selective manner that does not have significant impact on the operation of other apparatus that may be connected to the same phone line (13B). Several different techniques are provided for waking up the equipment (11B) and initiating communication with the service system (20). In one embodiment, equipment wakeup is effected by a call with particular characteristics, the equipment (11B) once woken up calling a network access point (18) to establish communication with the service system (20). In another embodiment, a wakeup call is placed via a network access point (18) and the equipment picks up the call and uses it to establish network access. In other embodiments, the equipment is woken up by means of a wakeup indicator transmitted independently of a normal call on the line connected to the equipment, such as by signalling passed over the phone line or by radio paging.

摘要： A method and system for transmitting data over loaded twisted pair copper wires using a low frequency offset, differential voltage, on-off keying (OOK) transmission technique are described. According to one embodiment, an analog or digital signal is sent or received and converted, if necessary, into or from serial format onto or out of a loaded twisted pair copper wire. The signal uses an OOK modulated sinusoidal offset signal with an associated differential voltage. A floating reference ground set positive or negative for the differential nature of the transmission may be required. The OOK modulated offset low frequency is being keyed to the floating ground reference that is set to a minimum signal to noise ratio (SNR) level. The SNR level may be set by adjusting the voltage separation between floating ground and the offset of the sinusoidal low frequency wave. The amplitude of the sinusoidal wave may be adjusted to provide increased transmission distance and better SNR. In addition, an encoding scheme may be used to incorporate all signaling and control information within the serial transmission.
