    • PURPOSE:To accurately and simply diagnose the operation state of an engine, by rapidly calculating various data on the basis of the spark noise of the engine. CONSTITUTION:The electromagnetic wave emitted by the spark of an ignition plug generated in synchronous relation to the rotation of an engine is received by an antenna coil 17 and enters a wave form shaping circuit 1 through a coupling coil 12 to be converted to a pulse signal. Display devices 9, 10 and RAM4c are cleared by the input of a first pulse signal and, at the same time, a pulse interval measuring circuit 3 outputs the interval of adjacent pulses to a microcomputer 4 while repeats the start and stop of timing operation and stores the same in RAM4c. By this method, the pulse interval is used as data and various data such as the number of rotations, rotary irregularity, respective average values or an instantaneous value are rapidly calculated therefrom by operation processing and the operation state of the engine can be accurately and simply diagnosed by various data.
